I lingered at the entrance gate until the familiar black sedan pulled up. Before Morris could even unfasten his seatbelt to assist me, I'd already slipped into the backseat.
"Something troubling you, angel?" Morris's brow furrowed with concern as Jasper eased the car into motion.
I forced brightness into my voice. "Just had an unpleasant run-in with my aunt. I'll share details later—no need to dwell on it now. Good morning, gentlemen."
The journey was filled with Austin's animated chatter, including a proud declaration of how he'd stuck his tongue out at the "witch," which had us all bursting into laughter.
Natalie's parents welcomed us with overwhelming warmth. They absolutely doted on Austin, repeatedly hinting to their daughter about wanting more grandchildren—suggestions Natalie skillfully deflected with practiced ease.
