Monica's POV
After Morris and Jasper departed, I tucked my little boy into bed and rejoined my parents in the living room, bracing myself for the questions I knew were coming.
"Sweetheart, why didn't you tell us about your work situation?" Dad asked, his eyes filled with concern.
I settled onto the sofa before answering, "I didn't want to burden you with my problems. Besides, I was fortunate to have a friend who stepped in like a guardian angel and helped me secure an equally good position elsewhere."
Dad leaned forward in his chair. "Morris mentioned you're working for his friend now, but that you'll eventually return to his company."
"That's still up in the air," I replied, running my fingers along the edge of a throw pillow. "I haven't made any decisions yet."
