PPE-Personal Protective Equipment
THIRD POV.
The security personnel had gotten a notification from their pagers; it read that there was an incident in one of the labs.
Quinn looked at it and sighed before turning to his team and saying
"Already looks like something went wrong in lab one. It will be me, Ethan, and Nathan who will be going. This will be standard procedure. We go in, knock the thing out, and leave understand."
"Got it cap."
"Capt. Is the door locked? Is it filled with smoke? And do we need our PPE?"
"No to all of it. My pager says that the 'doctor' managed to lock the lab before anything could happen, and I doubt he would fill it with smoke before."
"Making us work for it I guess."
"Shut it…just be glad the room is locked, and that thing isn't outside. Remember what happened when one of them got loose. Yeah, exactly, so shut up. Grab your tranquilizer gun and let's move it. I want this done and over with."
"Roger"
"Got it captain."
The team made their way through the research area or medical area, whatever those big-brained schmucks called it. Just before entering the room, they saw multiple scientists laid out of the floor. The 'Toy' was still on the operating table and didn't look to have caused the issue. It was only briefly but Ethan saw a small figure of a kid standing next to one of the scientist.
Ethan tapped his captain on the shoulder and spoke
"Capt. Looks like a kid. I don't know how he or she got in the room, but it's just a kid. Should be easy for the new guy to deal with."
"We go in together, Ethan, that is the protocol. I will try to get the kid to come out when I do I want you to put him to sleep. The bigwigs can take it from there."
Quinn opened the door, walked into the room, and spoke.
"Come out, kid, we just want to talk to you. Come out nice and eas.y"
When he spoke, he saw the kid jumped and hid behind one of the drawers that was near the back corner. There was silence for a brief movement before the kid replied.
"You know..nice and easy never really was my thing."
Before Quinn or his team could understand what the kid meant, they saw him jump on top of the drawer, where he landed in a crouch position with test tubes in his hands. The kid had to have been between 9 or 10 years old, he had short black hair with tan skin.
Quinn cursed under his breath it had taken him less than a second to know who this kid was. This was Max, the kid that Leith was extremely fond of. If something happened to this kid, Quinn didn't want to find out.
"Loo-"
Quinn didn't finish speaking before test tubes were thrown at him. Quinn and his team dodged the test tubes, but when they looked back the kid was gone. Confused Quinn looked around and saw that the kid had somehow managed to get behind Nathan and was on his back.
The kid was literally on Nathan back like a monkey choking him out. Nathan struggled to get the kid off of him, coughing the whole way.
"Shit. Shoot!" Quinn yelled, and he raised his tranq. gun to fire, but the kid brought his legs closer to Nathan`s back and leaped off him. The shots that were fired hit Nathan instead.
Nathan fell passed out on the floor next to the others. Quinn and Ethan were still close to the entrance and saw the kid roll towards the 'Toy'. When he got close to the 'Toy', he pulled out a gun and fired at them.
Quinn and Ethan both tried to dodge and get to cover but there wasn't anything to cover behind in the room. Quinn was shot and started to lose consciousness. His last thoughts were 'How the fuck did this happen?'
MC POV
Those ass hats got me. Well, now I know that the worms can help with tranquilizing bullets. How much is unknown, but still, it works. I was shot four times, the bullets were easy to take out, and the bleeding stopped almost immediately when the bullets were taken out. The security guards had keys which hopeful wil-
"Hey Quinn we heard movement. The camera feed is out, and Top wants to know if this is serious."
Crap, can I get out of here? Why can't my life be easy for once. The 'hand' that the guards used to get into the room didn't work. Surprise, surprise. Fuck my life. I sat on one of the scientists and waited. What could I even do in this situation. I couldn't leave, the door was locked, and-
"Hello?"
"Quinn respond?"
Now the security team knows I am here. I wonder if I could use the runes to get out, no, that wouldn't work. I didn't want people to learn about magic. The possibility that someone might find something or that there is a secret camera somewhere in this room was too great. I couldn't imagine…Sawyer with magic, let alone the 'Prototype', it was not worth the risk to do any type of magic right now.
What to do what to do.
"QUINN! RESPOND! We ar-"
"Fascinating. Subject was able to counter three adult personnel and the entire surgical staff. With little to no effort on their part. Tell me Max were you given a dose of the tranquilizing bullets? I assume you were…let`s see. Factoring in room size, bullet speed, and other such things. I can presume that you were shot five or more times. That amount should have been enough to put anyone to sleep. But here you are still moving around. Intriguing. "
"Oh shut up. I broke your monitor. Shouldn't you be off watching little 'toys' or something, you creep?"
"The only thing you managed to do with that little fit of yours was stop me from seeing you. I can still feel your movements, still have the sensation of you trying to open the locked door. I can still hear you."
"Seriously can you just fucking die. Go to hell I am sure the devil is waiting for you there, I can only imagine you have an express pass."
"Subject engages in auditory banter, which can only be related to his given situation. I wonder how much of the Poppy smoke you can take before your body finally gives way. Given your weight, height, age, and body fat, I can estimate that it will take approximately 1.8% MAC of the Poppy smoke. But you are different, and you have already been given multiple injections of xylazine. You must be feeling something already."
Damnit. This dude was fucking with me. I wasn't feeling dizzy or sleepy, no in fact I was still good to go. The only problem I had was NOT being able to find a way out of this fucking room. The room was starting to fill up with red smoke. That is it, I am getting out of here.
The 'Hand' key lock came out easily after hitting it a few times. I didn't really know what I needed to do, but just figured that a little electrician magic would work…hopefully…I never worked as a electrician and didn't know anything about it.
"You are wasting your time. The personnel have been notified, and soon the smoke will fill the room. It is best not to fight it."
At this point, I knew that he was messing with me. He was trying to get into my head, but it wasn't working. The red smoke continued to fill the room, and now the room was mostly red. The worms in my lungs were moving repeatedly, trying to help. They were overworking, trying to stop the tranquilizer medication, and the smoke from working.
I was losing focus, getting double vision, and my eyelids kept wanting to close. I had looked at the same wires multiple times, trying to plug them in somewhere on this stupid panel. I was getting so…tired.
I moved away from the panel, turned, and tried to think of a way out. I stood up and tripped. I..fuck. My vision was doubled, and I was seeing red. My body wouldn't respond, and the worms weren't moving as quickly as before in my body. I couldn't keep my eyes open…fuck
[I know short chapter. I was going to do a better job writing a fight scene, but I realized something. My character is a combat vet. With combat experience, who has been fighting undead monsters and demons. He also has worms that increase his physical strength, reaction time, and other such things. He was fighting three adults, one of them being a new guy. A big fight scene to me didn't make much sense. Not only that but the most important thing is....I dont know how to write one.]
