Chapter 6 - Lonely Darkness 2

- so that's how it is.

I mumbled to myself when i finished reading the book.

People in this world are born with special element's slightly infused in their mana which cannot be changed unless something fundamental within your soul will be overwritten by experiences you have like a serious trauma or training in a specific conditions for years, maybe even decades.

There was the same ranking of mana control like in the novel, it was split into eight stages Novice, Begginer, Intermediate, Expert, Master, Grandmaster, Breakthrough and Mastered. The first stage that i needed to achieve was novice in which i could sense mana in my body.

When i would reach a begginer stage i will be able to boost my overall physical abilities with mana and use the most basic spells which require a miniscule amounts of mana and are made of a single rune.

At the Intermediate stage i will be able to gather my mana in specific areas for strenghtening my body, or use Low-Intermediate spells which finally will allow mages to fight.

Experts will be able to solidify mana around their body or weapons and use normal Intermediate spells due to amounts of their mana increasing exponentially.

People that reach Grandmasters level have ability to influence surroundings with their core elements like controling nature with just a thought. The mages finally get an ability to use High-Intermediate spells and step into the Low-High ones which make an immense difference.

Even the Low-High spells can wipe out Villages or small cities with some preparations.

The most talented people get a chance to have a Breakthrough which fuses your mana with the core element you had and makes it have special properties which aren't even recorded due to how rare it is.

I know only one person who has reached Breakthrough stage who is still alive

And that was Edward Granthur, his mana's affinity is mixed beetween Light and Dark which was the result of his parents rules and the love for magic that he couldn't use at all.

There's also the last stage which is when you have completely mastered mana control and are able to change the element you were born with no effort at all.

Only the person who introduced magic to people was able to achieve this level, he was regarded as a god, but even this so called god couldn't live forever and died while leaving thousands of books that he made about how to develop ones mana and get to next stages.

People dedicated their whole lives to researching magic and trying to master it but no one could win against the wall called 'innate talent' there had to be a once in a lifetime genious for them to reach that stage.

There was one person who can do it though

The main character of the very novel Micheal Dornton who mastered it on the brink of death and couldn't show the world his achievement. He fought againt three of the tyrants armies with just a squad of eight people who were his closest allies.

During the war he killed almost half of their soldiers and fought the kings alone when everyone else was holding down people from helping their leaders. All of them had reached Breakthrough stages but Micheal was stronger and developed his mana when the situation looked hopeless.

Now he will reach that stage even without needing to fight them

With the knowledge he had it was just to easy to do, they didn't even try to make it look hard for him there, author simply made him extremely overpowered.

Ah i should stop thinking about that guy

While it was true that it will end all and well i still need to somehow not get killed in the process of it. Just as the Chancellor said, i can be seen as some cultist and killed on a stake. Just thinking about it was horrifying.

I guess im gonna try to sense the mana for now

The book was telling me to focus on my heart because mana was like blood and flowed through my veins, the heart was producing mana but i couldn't control it nor sense anything, it was like this for a long time.

I didn't feel anything, or i just couldn't, i guess i need to focus more and spend time on studying my body like a tool.

My legs were crossed and my arms were on me knees, i tried to feel something, anything, even if there was nothing to feel i imagined myself feeling something, i sat or atleast it looked like i did when i was floating in mid air and focused.

And after what felt like hours, i felt it, something small at first, but it didn't stop, as more time passed i knew that in my blood there was something more, the power that i could use was there but i wasn't able to utilize it.

It was then that i saw something below me, like a slight yellow spot not bright but not dark either, just something yellow that grew more and mo-

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

I just remembered that the place i fell into was a well, and the only thing that i thought about was how magical this place was, my mind didn't register that it could be dangerous or anything.

The yellow spot was most likely the bottom of the well, i thought that Chancellor used some magic so i thought it was real, but what if it really was? Am i going to die?

I covered my eyes and just waited until i landed, and when i did the only sound that reached my ears before the world was dyed black was a silent breaking of the bones, it was so sudden that i didn't register anything.

My last thought's werent anything grand or hatefull, just by looking around this place i felt like my heart was tightly squeezed in the palm of someones hand.

It's so dark in here.

Edward stared silently at the boy on the screen that laid there in the sand and didn't move an inch.

Maybe i overdid it

He thought so before putting down his now empty cup of tea on the table and going to bed.

The thing Julius was now experiencing were nothing but an illusion, his supposed death was just a mind trick he did to see his way of dealing with sudden fall.

It was-

- Dissapointing.

For hours he watched him read and then try to sense his mana which by some miracle worked in less than ten hours when it took for normal people about two to three days, of course it was impressive but looking at the students that will be coming to academy its just slightly better than half of them.

He got up from his stool and wanted to go to bed, he made sure that Julius would snap out of the illusion in a day and see himself at the bottom of the well. there was enough equipment placed around for him to train his body and a special secluded area where he could practice mana and spells.

Edward got rid of the screen and went to bed, he still had high hopes for him but not as much as before due to how quick his so called 'disciple' gave up on saving himself.

The only thing he didn't notice even with his abilities was the slight trembling body of Julius.
