Chapter 5 - Lonely Darkness 1

The anger and hopelessness i felt at the moment were last of my worries, i was falling down for quite a long time, walls around me started to widen and i couldn't see any light from the surface anymore.

Hold on, if the chancellor pushed me in then it must have meant my task was to go inside and not observe it

I felt like such an idiot for misinterpreting his words and standing there for almost a hour. That means im gonna be learning from this, but what?

This well was obviously not normal with time passing and me falling even deeper i barely noticed the walls around me in the dark that surrounded me.

Am i supposed to land or something? maybe there will be something at the bottom

While thinking about it, that made sense, he said i was supposed to train my body and blood magic so there should be a training ground of sorts.

*bang*

Snapping me out of my thoughts was something small hitting me in the head and before i could see what it was, the pouch Edward threw was falling beside me as if following me.

Ouch, i guess he isn't fond of me yet

In the novel he wasn't fond of making acquaintances so it isn't really surprising. The pouch was pretty small the size of my hand and felt pretty light.

Is it a normal pouch or something infused with magic, i wonder if it can store a ton of items like in the books, it would be so fun

My excitement got a hold of me and i instantly opened the pouch without much thought, this proved to be quite a mistake on my part.

Supplies that Chancellor gave me flew at my face and slowly spread out around me, i was covered in some food and ink that he probably wanted me to write my notes with.

*Drip*

The ink got mixed with my hair and was now dripping onto my clothes, I tried finding something to wipe it but there was nothing.

He probably didn't expect me to do something so stupid

Yes i was really careless but i couldn't help it, i see magic for the first time in my life so i got really interested in it.

I tried to wipe all of the ink with my sleeves from my hair but it was already too late, it was dyed black and my shirt was partially black.

I'm such a fool

Not even ten minutes passed before i messed up and i probably had to sit here for months looking at the food that floated around me which were just bunch of random cans with meat and other thing.

While lamenting about my clothes i went ahead and started packing all of the stuff back inside, it took me a few minutes to figure out how the pouch worked and i now was able to effortlessly pull out anything i wanted with just a thought.

Magic sure is convenient

Now i was even more sure that the person i met was a great wizard who could make something like this in a second. And that was without even thinking about his sword skills, he would be a disaster.

I guess i need to start learning huh

The darkness around me didn't go away in the slightest and i couldn't see the walls of the well anymore. Falling for about twenty half an hour gave me an idea that i needed to complete a specific condition to get out of here.

Well, i was sent here to get stronger so il make sure time won't go to waste. My hand reached inside the pouch and what came out were three books which covers thankfully i could read.

So the language here is english aswell huh

That wasn't surprising because in the novel nothing about special language being used was brought up, even the elfs and dwarfs who were almost never encountered used it.

I looked at the covers of the books and mumbled their names.

- Basics of Initiating Mana, Mana Control Manual and Blood Magic Guide.

My lips slightly curved up as i read these titles, i was going to learn how to use mana and magic in this new weird place. Even with how fast things were going i could barely mentally keep up with all of it. Thankfully i was now alone and could do anything i pleased and thinks i loved the most, reading.

After thinking for a bit i picked the first book which seemed most important for me at the moment, 'Basics of Initiating Mana' It would most likely help me get a grasp on how to get mana and finally be able to understand magic even if just a little.

I left the two other books floating next to me so i could instantly read them whenever i pleased and started studying.

The Chancellor sat in his hut sipping on some freshly brewed tea and looked at the magic screen that was floating in front of him, he had his hair untied and was resting while watching Julius who just got drenched in ink.

His lips curled up slightly at the sight of how foolish the youth that he wanted to teach was faring. It felt like he stared at his younger self who didn't know a thing and wanted to discover all secrets of the world.

Even seeing his excited face when he saw and opened the pouch he made on a whim before everything flied out straight at him almost prompted him to chuckle.

Edward Granthur wasn't a great teacher, he despised being the center of attention for the children that studied in his academy, but the boy that was falling into the void, there was something about him that made him feel like he was just like him, he saw excitement and interest in him but what hid deeper was the loneliness, fear and sense of loss which he knew all too well.

When he was younger, Edward liked experiencing new things like seeing mages use their magic for fun and how beautifull it was when he saw the mages simply entertain people around them and show off their spells.

Sadly his household nurtured only knights and they despised mages saying things like it's witchcraft and waste of time but he didn't accept that.

On one night, he sneaked out of his house and asked one of the mages on the street to teach him magic and they gladly accepted, they taught him the most simple spell that could be learned by anyone, a begginer spell called 'Light' which produced a small orb of light that was barely the same as a small candle.

He was so happy that the magic was possible for even him, after paying the mage he went back to his household and tried showing it off to his father which proved to be the biggest mistake.

When he said the incantation and the orb of light appeared before his parents, they were outraged. His father ordered the people in their barony to find and bring the mage to his house. The once cheerfull mage looked nothing like before with bruises and cuts all over his body.

The Baron and Edwards father Ludwig Granthur beat the mage and left him on the brink of death while asking questions like 'did you know who you just taught magic to' or 'how did you brainwash my son' Edward just stood there and cried asking him to stop just to get hit and fall back.

After rubbing his teary eyes he looked up at his father who handed him the hilt of something which seemed to be a sword. The eyes of people around widened slightly but chose not to go against the actions that Baron took.

Edward didn't understand his fathers intention but then he heard the words that he most likely wouldnt even think as a twelve year old child.

- Make him pay for his sin and put an end to the life of whom stained you with this disgusting magic.

That day, the small kid was gone and replaced with emotionless human being that didn't care about anything at all and focused on commands given to him, just so no one would die by his hands again.
