Chapter 29 - CHAPTER 29: THE ABYSSAL VEIL

The interior of the Pavilion of the Waning Moon transformed the moment the iron bolts slammed home. As the bars dropped, the ambient light of Eos-Prime withdrew from the windows, retreating as if the glass itself had become a predatory barrier. Wei Chen moved to the center of the hall with the terrifying fluidity of deep water. He sat cross-legged before a scroll of virgin silk, his midnight-blue robes spilling around him like a pool of ink.

Wei Chen dipped his brush into the ink-stone. As the first stroke hit the silk.

The world went silent, as if acknowledging it's inferiority in the presence of a king and a begger, chaos and order, nothingness and creation, light and dark, yin and yang.

The Shroud of the Formless, Wei chen whispered, one of the many innate abilities he possess, a power born from the impossible collision of the yin and yang.

It was not a technique, but an erasure of reality. As he painted the Yin-Yang duality—the swirling, violent dance of "The All" and "The Void"—a wave of liquid darkness erupted from his heart. It did not spread like smoke; it claimed the space it touched with the absolute speed of thought. The darkness cascaded through the walls and surged outward, blanketing the entire North Spire of the Sect in a heartbeat.

Within the pavilion, the laws of the Heavens began to warp. The ink on the paper swirled in three dimensions, mimicking the primordial storms that birthed the stars. The floorboards felt like a rushing river one moment and hardened celestial jade the next. The pavilion was no longer a building within the Iron-Thorn Sect; it was a pocket of existence cut out of the world, a void-cell where the planet's gravity and time held no sway.

Outside the veil, the world ended for the North Spire. Elder Jiro, overseeing the ballistae, dropped his torch. It didn't fall; it vanished into a void so absolute the fire was extinguished instantly. He could no longer feel the stone beneath his boots.

"My eyes! I cannot see" a disciple screamed, but the sound was a muffled, low-frequency groan. The Guards felt their iron armor turn into cold water against their skin, while the air they breathed felt like swallowing shards of glass.

In the high Sanctum, Sect Master Thorne surged to his feet. He released a roar of metallic Qi designed to shatter any illusion. But when his power hit the Shroud, it was simply consumed. The darkness refused to acknowledge his existence. Thorne, the King of the Mountain, was suddenly a ghost in his own castle.

Inside the pavilion, protected by the eye of the storm, Wei Chen continued to paint. Every stroke was a step toward rebirth. The Veil allowed him work in harmony, in silence, wei chen was a careful man, how could he allow himself to breakthrough in a hostile environment without taking precautions. That would simply be folly from a fool who does not recognise the weight of the cultivation world, what enemy would simply stand and watch as you get stronger.

"Mother to them you were a victim," Wei Chen whispered, his hands glowing with violet and gold light. "But you were the sun that chose to set so I could learn to walk."

His Solar-Lunar Marrow. The pressure within his Dantian became a flickering, twilight spark.

"Thorne thinks he can use me," Wei Chen said. "He doesn't realize the music is already playing. The mountain is no longer his."

As he completed the painting, the Shroud contracted, pulling the hijacked Qi of the North Spire toward the pavilion to feed the furnace of his rebirth. Wei Chen let his brush fall. The time for art was over.
