Chapter 32 - CHAPTER 32: THE DANCE OF THE BLIND PARAGON

The dust of the shattered roof tiles had barely settled when the door to the pavilion groaned on its hinges. It did not fly open with a bang; it moved with a slow, deliberate grace that seemed to pull the air out of the lungs of the sixteen masters standing on the bridge.

Wei Chen stepped over the threshold. The silver blindfold across his eyes caught the dull, metallic light of Eos-Prime, reflecting a calm that felt alien in the face of the Elders' collective killing intent. Behind him, two figures followed—one, a girl with skin like dark jade, and the other, Kaelen.

Wei Chen stopped at the edge of the bridge. The sheer pressure of Sect Master Thorne's aura was enough to liquefy stone, yet as it reached the three feet of space surrounding Wei Chen, the pressure simply… vanished. It was as if the weight of the mountain had met an endless abyss.

"Sect Master Thorne," Wei Chen began. His voice was not a roar, nor was it a whisper; it was a steady, scholarly tone that carried an unnerving warmth. He tilted his head slightly, as if listening to a distant melody only he could perceive. "The Iron-Thorn mountain has a very rigid heartbeat. It is stiff, lacking the fluidity of a true path. After all this hospitality, I find myself wondering... do you want to dance, Sect Master?"

The question was so absurd, so devoid of the expected terror, that Thorne's Crimson Madness momentarily flickered into pure, cold shock.

"You arrogant whelp," Thorne spat, his Spirit Soul flaring into a jagged crown of silver light. "You are a Realm 2 initiate. I am the Master of this sect. You do not dance with me; you crawl before me."

"Then let us see if your feet can keep up with your pride," Wei Chen replied.

At that moment, the figure of Kaelen stepped forward, and reached up to his throat. With a sound like parchment tearing, he pulled at his own collar. The skin didn't bleed; it peeled away in translucent, grey flakes, dissolving into the wind. Beneath the mask of the middle-aged man was a featureless, shifting silhouette of darkness—the Shadow.

The Elders gasped, their formations momentarily wavering. High Elder Jiro stumbled back, his sword-platform trembling. "Kaelen? No... Kaelen died in the Wastes. You... what are you?"

"I am the echo of your failures," the Shadow's voice hissed, sounding like a thousand dry leaves skittering across a grave.

Wei Chen didn't wait for their recovery. He moved.

His first step was a manifestation of his Sovereign Paradox. As his foot touched the bridge, the environment underwent a horrific transformation. To the left of his path, the stones grew searingly hot, glowing with a Yang-essence that turned the iron-wood into molten slag. To the right, the air froze so instantly that the moisture in the atmosphere turned into jagged shards of Yin-ice.

Six of the Elders, including High Elder Jiro, lunged forward to intercept him. Their metallic Qi formed a cage of jagged needles, aiming to shred his meridians in a single pass.

Wei Chen simply reached out. His hand moved through the flurry of blades with the ease of a man picking a fallen leaf from a stream. One of the Elders, a man at the peak of the Third Realm, swung a heavy, broad-bladed sabre. Wei Chen didn't block it. He caught the flat of the blade with two fingers, using a tiny burst of Inversion Qi.

The Elder's momentum didn't just stop; it was redirected into the ground. The bridge beneath the Elder exploded into a crater of dust, but the sabre remained in Wei Chen's hand, the Elder having been tossed into the abyss by his own force.

Wei Chen looked at the captured weapon. It was a crude tool, made of low-grade spirit-iron. But as he held it, he closed his eyes. In a heartbeat, a terrifying hum erupted from the metal. The Weapon Intent—a concept that usually took centuries of meditation to touch—ignited within the blade. The dull iron turned a brilliant, shimmering violet.

"Weapon Intent?" Thorne's voice was a strangled cry. "You have never held a sabre in this sect! How can you awaken its soul in a breath?"

Wei Chen parried three simultaneous strikes with a casual flick of the stolen blade. "The world is made of principles, Sect Master. If you understand the essence of the forge, you understand every child of the flame."

He spun, the sabre tracing a perfect circle of Yin-energy that shattered the shields of the six Elders, sending them reeling backward as their internal organs were rocked by a cold, numbing vibration.

"You... you are a monster," Thorne whispered, his Spirit Soul beginning to crack under the psychological weight.

Wei Chen paused, the violet-glowing sabre resting easily in his grip. His tone remained light, almost apologetic. "Monster? No, Sect Master. This is merely the least I expect from myself. If I could not handle six minor elders of a lower-realm sect while blind and half-awake, I could never hope to carve out a space for myself in the higher galaxies. There are beings out there who can erase stars with a sigh. And besides, I am not even trying."

The wind howled through the ruined bridge, carrying the scent of ozone and bringing with it an air of sad realization.
