I looked closer.
"Crazy how I can actually see their warm breath in that liquid." I squint.
Like I has observed earlier the tubes were shedding cold air, you could feel it burn your skin as you got near.
Painful but not unbarebale.
"They must wear suits while checking on them. Noone here though." I look around standing still.
"It must all be documented on computers, makes sense that there isn't a real need for them to go down here."
I hesitate but decide to touch the freezing cold.
My hand presses against the glas.
*crack*
I jump, taking my hand away quickly. "Oh fu-"
The cracking continues, about to break the chamber, I make a run for it.
I see the blue liquid splash out on the floor, covering the white floors blue, then red.
I stand still, in shock. The body of the president collapsing to the floor.
"Oh shit, oh shit, what did I do?!" I panic.
"Do I just leave? Act like nothing happened? Nononono." I scratch my head stressed.
Then a sudden fizzing sound.
Something was evaporating. I turn my head back to the scene.
"He..He's disolving?" A foul stench crawls up my nose. I quickly hold my hand to my nose, closing it shut. My face in shock.
It takes me a few seconds before I can move again.
I take slow steps toward the broken chamber.
The persident now just a pile of goop, disolved. His blood mixed with chemicals filling the aroma of the room.
Finally being able to take my eyes off of him, I look inside the chamber.
Tubes, which were giving him the needed nurtience now dripping down into the empty construction.
"If I had the chance to go inside these chambers willingly.....you must really have hated your life to leave your present behind." I look down to the pile of solutions mixed into each other.
The chamber was now room temprature. I could now stick my head in, getting a better view of this contraption.
It was using some weirdly stretchy pink thing that absorbed all the gunk the individuals shed.
"This must be a new thing from the future too, huh?.."
Come to think of it, our perception of the future wasn't that far off. Nothing like 'Wars of the Star' though. No lasers, nothing.
I was born in the year 2001, the beginning of technology.
...This was like day and night.
"Wait! I recalled something! I'm was born in 2001???" excited I took my head back, happy I was remembering. -But forgetting the fuilds on the ground I slipped and fell.
"Ow,ow, ow.."
I felt a sharp cut on my shoulder, my face turning sour.
Upset, that I hurt myself again I get up. Surprisingly my clothes stayed dry, not a single stain on me.
"I am so sorry." I look at the goop that was once a president.
I walk out before anyone can see me, speedwalking toward the door. Then I hear loud sounds, voices, getting closer.
"I should better hide! I don't want to be in touble." I hide inside a closet right next to the door. My sight cut off through the yellow contamination suites embracing me.
One of the individuals sigh.
"One more this week..can't believe I had to leave Sri Lanka for this."
The other responds.
"Hey, atleast you get to have vacation, I gotta deal with these piles of goop every few months."
"Wow they sound so spoiled.." I think to myself.
The other continues.
"Well mister president also didn't get what he wanted..life ain't fair, that's that."
.
.
A few minutes pass.
"Looks like someone touched the chamber destroying the balance of tempartures....aaand he's still in the room with us."
I hear them packing up, then a small knock.
I open the closet hesitantly.
"Heyy Ezekiel! Whatcha doin' in there?"
I laugh nervously. "Sorry, I really didn't mean to.."
"It happensss, not the first one this week, don't worry. Come here, we'll bring you to graham."
I blink, surprised by the relaxed attitude. I step out, embarressed.
"T-Thank you."
"Nahh, don't worry about it. I'm Robert by the way." he holds out his hand.
I reach out for his and shake it.
"I'm Lucy" says the woman next to him, smiling, now also holding out her hand.
I shake it too, noding. "Nice to meet you."
Both smile, guiding me to the door.
We walk, enganging in a little small talk, how I'm feeling etc.
Not even 5 minutes later we stand before a lit up projector type thing. -A teleportation device.
"Welp! This is my stop, see ya around! Take it easy, 'kay? Sri Lanka awaits!" Lucy says with a smug smile as she dissapears into the machine.
"By-" and she's gone.
Robert laughs. "Not used to the speed, eh?" I shake my head.
"You'll get there." he says winking.
"I've read about your time so I know you guys perceive things a little slow....all with time! We humans are well at adapting after all."
I nod.
We continue walking.
.
.
"Hey, how come you know my name?" I ask.
Robert looks at me, then turns back.
"Well, you are our first ever Jumper. Of course it would make sense, that everybody involved was informed of our success."
"Ah, I see" I say, quiet.
.
.
.
Pain. Brutal, sharp.
"Ah-" I stop, holding onto my shoulder.
An itch, a thing. It was crawling from my shoulder up to my face, stretching my skin as it went.
I scream out in pain.
Robert jumping aside as he observes me.
I drop to my knees, saliva dripping down my mouth.
"TAKE IT OUT, TAKE IT OUT...A..agh.." I scratch my neck aggressivly.
Robert presses a button right on the wall, screaming as he talks.
"WE HAVE A 997, GET HERE QUICK."
.
.
Death was constantly after me, punishing me for not having died when I should have. I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't exist.
My eyes narrow as I kneel there, tears and saliva mixing on the floor.
My breathing slows, my hand falling as I lose my strength. I can't tell if i peeded myself, but my body was losing all sorts of control.
Robert was holding a gun, keeping a good distance between him and I.
"...help." a quiet howling to be heared, I was crying.
"What's happening to me, please...please, help me." I say weak, tears taking my vision.
.
"I'm sorry I can't tell you." Robert says, sweat dripping down his face. Fear.
All Robert could see was a huge buldge on my neck.
*BAM*
Robert closed his eyes, scared.
Ezekiel was screaming, painfully so. Then a squishing sound and all went quiet.
Robert started praying under his breath as he opened his eyes slowly.
.
.
Ezekiel was on the floor, knocked out, breathing. Next to him something unknown. A parasite.
He doesn't hesitate a second, shooting Ezekiel and the parasite until both are persumed dead.
He breathes out in relief.
The safety team arrives not a moment later.
Robert doesn't explain. He looks firm.
"Get graham, now."
