Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Why Would I Marry an Unwanted Loser

"Marry you?"

In the brightly lit, silent drawing room, the man let out a small scoff. It was as if he had heard an extremely ridiculous joke. He lowered his head, his gaze turning cold at once. That face, perfect as if carved by the hand of God, turned sullen, and the chill radiating from his entire being made Serena Sullivan, sitting opposite him, involuntarily tremble.

"Mr. Grant." Serena straightened her back as she spoke, smiling as she met the man's sharp, icy gaze. After years apart, the suffocating feeling he evoked when angry was even more intense.

"There are still ten minutes before the wedding begins. You need a bride!"

She said with seemingly ease, pressing her lips together as she spoke.

Today, the Grant and Sullivan families were uniting in marriage. Ethan Grant's bride had disappeared half an hour ago. While everyone was anxiously searching for the bride, Serena had come forward, proposing that Ethan Grant marry her.

This wedding was extremely important to both The Grant Family and The Sullivan Family. The guests in the hotel banquet hall outside were all waiting for the ceremony to begin. If the bride didn't appear, the wedding could not go on, inevitably affecting the reputation of both families and having a direct impact on their stock prices the next morning.

"I am the eldest daughter of The Sullivan Family. Marrying me is the best choice!"

After Serena spoke, she felt the atmosphere around her become even more icy. Ethan Grant, unbeknownst to her, had curled his lips into a smile.

His cold, indifferent eyes carried a mocking undertone, making Serena's back shiver, as a chilling panic coursed swiftly through her body.

"Sounds like a good plan!"

Ethan Grant chuckled lightly, looking at her face full of a forced smile, while the disgust in his eyes was uncontrollable.

Glancing down, she was dressed in a snow-white gown. Although sitting on a chair concealed her figure, that deceitful face undoubtedly captivated countless men in Solaria.

Such a woman!

Ethan Grant took out a cigarette and smoked fiercely. Soon, the room was filled with smoke, making the sensitive Serena Sullivan cough repeatedly, her eyes reddening as she suffered greatly.

"Mr. Grant, five more minutes!"

After stopping her cough, Serena smiled as she reminded him.

Hearing this, Ethan Grant became exceedingly irritable. His already cold eyes darkened further, all focusing on Serena's smiling face.

He stood up, pressing towards her step by step.

Seeing him approach, Serena instinctively grabbed the wheels of her chair. Before she could move the wheelchair back, he was upon her, grabbing Serena's wrist in one swift motion.

Serena struggled in pain. The more she moved, the more force Ethan applied, nearly crushing her wrist.

"Serena," he uttered the name icily, their eyes meeting. His astonishingly handsome face became even colder, with a terrifying gloom lying beneath his eyes.

Then, with a loud "bang," Ethan Grant harshly flung Serena's hand aside. The sudden action left her unprepared, causing her and the wheelchair to crash heavily to the ground.

Her face, shoulder, arm, and waist were all hurt immensely from the fall, except for her legs, which were numbly void of any feeling.

"What makes you think I'd marry a cripple like you!"

Cripple!

Lying on the floor unable to get up, Serena Sullivan heard those words, feeling an intense stab at the most fragile part of her heart. Her eyes turned red with emotion.

"And one that I've already discarded!"

"Four years apart, and the courage of Miss Sullivan is truly laughable!"

Ethan Grant looked coldly and mockingly at Serena, who was sprawled on the ground. He reached to straighten his suit. As always, this woman was utterly nauseating.
