Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: If You're Willing to Be a Substitute, I'll Grant Your Wish

Useless waste!

These words stabbed sharply into Serena Sullivan's heart like a knife, as she lowered her head, gazing at her pale face reflected on the polished tiles. Her throat suddenly became dry, so dry that even her eyes felt uncomfortable, forcing her to tightly close them.

After four years of not meeting, she thought he would spare her some dignity out of past feelings, thinking he would temporarily accept this proposal for the sake of the Grant and Sullivan families.

How could she forget, the man in front of her was Ethan Grant!

Four years ago, even when she hadn't crippled her legs, he toyed with her before discarding her. After four years, how could he fancy a woman who lost her legs and spends her days in a wheelchair!

Seeing her bow her head in silence, Ethan Grant's cold eyes became deep, the dim light in his eyes suddenly giving rise to a sad illusion.

"Even if I don't find Zoe today, I will postpone the wedding."

"You are not worthy of marrying me!"

After throwing out these cold, heartless words, Ethan Grant gave Serena a cold glance, turned around, and strode toward the door. The door of the reception room was pushed open from the outside, allowing the sounds of music and chatter from the wedding hall to pour in, breaking the peace of the room.

"Hold on!"

A voice as calm as water rang out. Ethan stopped in his tracks, turning his head to see Serena, who had already sat up. Her complexion had returned to normal, her eyes clear and bright, as she continued, "Mr. Grant, it's not too late to make a decision after seeing these documents."

She spoke, picking up her purse from the floor, and threw a document folder at Ethan Grant's feet.

Ethan Grant didn't want to marry her, yet she insisted on marrying him!

Ethan glanced at her sitting on the floor, gave a disdainful laugh, then lifted a foot and pressed his polished shoe onto the document folder.

"Serena, where have you hidden Zoe?"

No one believed that Zoe Quinn's disappearance and Serena Sullivan's appearance were unrelated.

Serena smiled but didn't answer his question, "Ethan Grant, if you insist on marrying Zoe Quinn, I guarantee that what's in here will spread across Solaria by tomorrow, and then..."

She spoke with a smile growing more vivid, causing Ethan to frown as he reached for the document folder his subordinate had picked up.

When the folder was opened, Ethan's already dark expression turned into disbelief after reading its contents and seeing the photos. By the end, his eyes were filled with a bone-chilling coldness mixed with a terrifying killing intent.

"Good! Very good!"

Who had ever threatened Ethan Grant!

Serena Sullivan had precisely grasped his weakness, and Ethan's hand tightened around the document folder, transforming all his restraint into anger, pressing toward the woman on the floor.

"Serena, since you're willing to be a substitute, I'll fulfill you!"

Ethan's harsh voice sounded, his eyes blazing with fury, as if he wished to crush Serena, the one forcing his hand, into dust. At that moment, the document folder in his hand was hurled toward Serena's leg.

Serena couldn't dodge it at all, watching helplessly as the folder full of documents hit her shin with a "bang." She could feel the bruise forming, but ironically, didn't feel anything.

"Ha!"

Ethan hadn't expected to really hit her, momentarily stunned, he saw Serena's face still smiling at him, and a sense of annoyance arose again. In a cold voice, he gave orders to the people waiting outside, "Dress her up, immediately!"

With that said, he walked away without looking back.
