"No. I'm not. I have a lunch date with Ann. I'm sorry I'll have to turn down your request."
She exhaled softly. He sure isn't backing down, she thought to herself, staring at the message once more.
"Ouch! Hearing you say the word No hits like a stab to the heart. But no worries. There's always a next time."
"I'll make it up to you tomorrow. How does that sound?"
"Perfect. Tomorrow then. Don't bail on me, okay?"
"Okay." Victoria texted back and dropped her phone again.
They'd never really done things couples did. Her birthdays, never celebrated. Outings? Only business or family events. Thinking back, they weren't much of a couple at all.
