Chapter 21: The Trap (and Adam's Foresight)
"Okay, this is it, team," Adam muttered, trying to sound serious, but his "Temporal Echoes" were buzzing like a hive of angry bees, showing him flashes of a future newspaper headline: "Flash Vanishes in Crisis." "The moment of truth. Or, you know, the moment we confirm that the guy in the wheelchair is actually a super-fast, time-traveling murderer. No biggie."
Jisoo, who was patiently trying to teach Cisco the choreography to "DDU-DU DDU-DU" while they waited for Wells to make his move, looked up. "He is very bad, Snack King. My vibes are… very bad. Like a song that tries to be happy but is actually very sad." She subtly scanned the lab with her powers, feeling for hidden compartments, her eyes narrowing at a faint energy signature near Wells' secret room.
"Right, Jichu," Adam said, trying to subtly nudge Cisco towards the direction of the time vault. "Very, very bad. So, Cisco, have you, uh, checked every nook and cranny of this place? Every secret passage? Every… time vault?" He tried to make it sound casual, but his voice was a little too high-pitched.
Cisco, distracted by Jisoo's dance lesson, just shrugged. "Nah, I think we got everything. Unless Wells has a secret lair under his secret lair, which, honestly, wouldn't surprise me."
As the team debated their strategy for trapping Wells, Adam saw Wells reach for his coffee. "Perfect. Time for a little pre-betrayal chaos."
"System, Minor Wish: 'Whipped Cream Overflow.' Target: Harrison Wells' coffee cup. Activate now."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Minor Wish 'Whipped Cream Overflow' Used. Cost: 20 Days. Current Wish Balance: 336 Days. Wells' annoyance: Mildly piqued.
Wells' coffee cup, which had been perfectly normal a second ago, suddenly began to froth and overflow with an absurd amount of whipped cream, spilling onto his hand and the table. Wells blinked, staring at the sugary mess with a look of mild annoyance, then subtly wiped his hand. The team, momentarily distracted by the bizarre coffee incident, exchanged confused glances.
"Did anyone else see that?" Caitlin whispered.
"Must be a new S.T.A.R. Labs coffee machine feature," Adam deadpanned, trying to suppress a giggle.
Later, the trap was sprung. Wells was revealed, and Cisco, in a horrifying flash of memory, relived his own death in the alternate timeline. He collapsed, gasping, clutching his chest.
"He… he killed me," Cisco choked out, tears streaming down his face. "In the future. He killed me!"
Adam and Jisoo were instantly by his side. "Hey, hey, it's okay, buddy," Adam said, his voice unusually soft. "You're here. You're alive. And we're not letting that happen again."
Jisoo gently placed a hand on Cisco's forehead, her eyes glowing faintly. "Your mind is very loud, Cisco-oppa. Too many bad songs."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Minor Wish 'Sense of Calm' Used. Cost: 10 Days. Current Wish Balance: 326 Days.
A wave of calm washed over Cisco, easing his panic, though the memory remained.
"Cisco," Adam said, seeing his friend's distress, "I know your brain is probably doing a full-on rave right now with all those memories. What if I could… clarify them? Make them less confusing? For, say, eighty days?"
Cisco, desperate for any relief, nodded. "Eighty days? Just… make it make sense, Adam. Please."
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]: Wish Trade initiated. Customer: Cisco Ramon. Wish: Memory Clarification. System Estimate: 40 Days. Host Proposed Trade: 80 Days. Profit: 40 Days. Customer agreed. Wish granted. Current Wish Balance: 376 Days.
Cisco blinked, a strange understanding dawning in his eyes. The fragmented memories snapped into place, horrifying but clear. He looked at Adam and Jisoo, a new level of trust in his gaze.
"Okay," Adam thought, looking at his healthy Wish Day balance. "We're in the thick of it now. Wells is exposed. The future is… well, it's still terrifying. But at least we're all on the same page. And Cisco isn't dead. Yet. Thanks, System, for not completely messing that up."
