The Mother's Judgment
Mama Okonkwo walked into Daniel's flat unannounced. Her voice filled the hallway like thunderclouds gathering.
"I want to speak to your wife. Now."
"She's not here," Daniel said, tired. "She's been staying with a friend."
"Good! Let her stay! That girl deceived you. Marriage is not for pretenders."
"She's trying," Daniel said quietly.
Mama Okonkwo folded her arms. "You always defend people with your mouth.
You think forgiveness is love? But love must have sense!"
"She lied, yes," Daniel replied. "But i didn't marry her because she could cook, i married her because she saw me."
Mama Okonkwo paused, thrown off.
Daniel added, "But maybe I never really saw her."
For the first time, his mother looked unsure.
She's not perfect," he said. "But neither am i.
