Chapter 6 - CHAPTER SIX

The Proposal

New York in spring carried a kind of poetry cherry blossoms falling like slow confetti, city smells replaced by soft rain, and the air thick with promises. It was on a quiet evening in March that Daniel decided to change both their lives.

Favour had invited him over again to her tiny apartment off campus. The living room glowed with dim yellow light, she wore an apron for the first time, just for show, though the food was in a black takeout bag hidden behind the counter.

Daniel entered, placing his satchel down, smiling in that quiet, thoughtful way of his.

"You always look like you're thinking about the meaning of life," she teased, handing him a glass of water.

"Maybe because I'm about to change mine," he said, almost in a whisper.

Favour blinked. "What?"

He stood and reached into his jacket pocket. She froze.

He went down on one knee.

"I don't want to waste time, Favour. You know who I am, and I know who you are,we have had enough months to pretend, i'm not looking for a girlfriend i'm looking for my partner. Will you marry me?"

Favour's heart thundered like a generator. She blinked twice, her thoughts swirling.

She should've asked for more time. But the ring was dazzling. The man? A PhD holder with a job offer in Abuja, stabl,God-fearing and loyal.

And he loved her.

"Yes," she breathed, tears pooling in her eyes. "Yes, Daniel. I will marry you ."
