That's exactly how it felt.
The seemingly formidable sandstorm had virtually no impact on Kaito Ren. It only tore a few holes in his clothes. He stood unharmed.
He'd been carrying that rock for nothing!
THUMP!
Kaito Ren dropped the rock and stepped before Hellish Blizzard.
"You finally came out! Realized the gap between us? Surrender now, and I'll consider sparing you and letting you join my Blizzard Group! Surrender, or face my Hellish Gale again?!"
Hellish Blizzard looked confident, believing Kaito Ren had surrendered. He was lacking in character, but his strength was undeniable. He'd lasted longer in her Hellish Gale than anyone else. She could fix his character later.
"Indeed."
Kaito Ren nodded gravely. There was a huge gap, but not between him and Hellish Blizzard, but between Hellish Blizzard and Tatsumaki. If Tatsumaki had been here, it would have been a different story. Tatsumaki was practically the strongest esper on Earth, capable of summoning meteors. And she could control their destructive power. The difference was clear.
"From today, you're the vice-leader of my Blizzard Group! But don't get complacent. If your strength falters, I'll remove you!"
"So, work harder to keep your position…"
"Hold on, when did I agree to join your Blizzard Group?!"
Kaito Ren looked at Hellish Blizzard, bewildered. Another misunderstanding?
"What?! You…"
Hellish Blizzard's face hardened. "You tricked me?!"
Her anger reignited. The sandstorm spun faster and more fiercely than before.
"Destroy, HELLISH GALE!"
This time, she used her full power. Since Kaito Ren wouldn't join her, she wouldn't hold back. She'd spare his life, but that was it.
"I think you should stop now."
The increased power was still insignificant to Kaito Ren. He remained unaffected.
"What?! How… how is this possible?!"
Hellish Blizzard stared at Kaito Ren, unmoved by her attack. She saw someone she didn't want to see—someone who'd remained unscathed by her most powerful attack, merely calling it "boring."
Why?! Why?!
Hellish Blizzard clenched her fists. She'd trained relentlessly, yet saw no progress. Anyone could withstand her attacks. Was she really that weak?
Seeing Hellish Blizzard's dejection, Kaito Ren realized he'd been a bit unfair. Maybe he should have pretended to struggle more?
But time was running out! The egg might hatch!
"As per our agreement, can I have my egg back?"
He had to ask. The bet was the bet.
"Before that, answer a question."
Hellish Blizzard looked at Kaito Ren, intrigued. She'd sensed he wasn't this strong when they first met. How had he improved so much in just two days?
"Okay, but after you answer, you give me back the egg!"
Kaito Ren reiterated.
"Hmm."
Hellish Blizzard nodded.
"Ask."
Kaito Ren looked at her.
"You didn't seem that strong when we first met. How did you get so much stronger? Do you have a special training method?"
Hellish Blizzard knew the question was impolite, but she was intensely curious. She wanted to learn.
"Well…"
Kaito Ren hesitated. He couldn't reveal his secret. But he knew she wouldn't let it go.
The egg! It better be amazing after all this!
Kaito Ren took a deep breath.
"My training isn't special. While you were sparring, I was fighting monsters in the forest."
"Fighting monsters?!"
Hellish Blizzard was shocked.
"Weren't you afraid of dying? You could have been killed!"
"Of course, I'm afraid!"
Kaito Ren admitted. He was afraid of death, more so than anyone.
"Then why…"
Hellish Blizzard was confused. If he was afraid, why fight monsters? Shouldn't he spar in a safer environment?
"If you're afraid, you just have to make sure you don't die!"
Kaito Ren grinned, extending his hand.
"I answered your question. Now give me back the egg!"
