Morning. The sun had just risen, and its rays fell across the faces of three young people. Squinting, they slowly got to their feet.
Physically, they didn't look tired, but one glance into their eyes revealed the truth — they were drained, exhausted on the inside. It was no surprise; yesterday they had lived through a nightmare.
A young girl with white hair stood up, looked at her two companions, and said:
"First we eat, then we move out."
The other two nodded. In Emma's hands, a piece of meat appeared. Seeing this, David thought:
"A soul space… You don't see that often. Only special people — those chosen by fate itself — can possess one."
While David was lost in thought about the soul space, Emma lit a fire and began cooking the meat.
Meanwhile, David took out a flask of water. After taking a sip, he handed it to Lucy. Feeling his touch, she took it, drank, and passed it to Emma.
Twenty minutes later, the meat was ready, and they began to eat.
The moment David bit into it, his face twisted, and he told Emma:
"Tastes awful."
Emma glanced at him and replied:
"Don't like it? Don't eat it."
With no choice, David kept eating, muttering:
"Next time, I'm cooking."
Emma didn't respond. Once they finished their meal, they stood and prepared to move.
Leaving the hill, they reached the forest and wandered for about half an hour before finding a mid-tier demon. Emma looked at Lucy and told her:
"Stay here. Don't move."
Lucy nodded.
Emma looked over at David, and he was ready too. When their eyes met, there was a strange sense of unity between them — yesterday's events had drawn them closer.
At the same moment, they charged the demon.
In Emma's hands appeared a golden sword, and with a swift strike, she severed its arms. Caught off guard, the demon had no time to react before David leapt from above and drove his blade straight into its head.
Satisfied with their work, they took the demon's core and returned to Lucy.
Lucy had been waiting anxiously. Hearing footsteps, she hid, but then felt a hand on her head — Emma's hand. Realizing who it was, Lucy relaxed, stood up, and held onto Emma's hand.
They moved on, searching for more demons.
But as they walked, the ground suddenly began to shake. The tremor was so strong they could barely keep their balance, clinging to each other while the forest itself seemed to tear apart under the force.
After a few minutes, the quake subsided. Just as the three were about to catch their breath, they realized the ground beneath their feet was vibrating again.
Looking down, they saw water flooding the island. Suddenly, David shouted:
"Run!"
Grabbing Lucy, the two of them sprinted as a massive wave — nearly twenty-five meters high — roared after them.
David and Emma ran as fast as they could, Emma clutching Lucy in her arms.
David kept glancing back, watching the water gain on them, until it finally caught up, sweeping them away.
They became separated — Lucy stayed with Emma. The last thing David saw was a tree hurtling toward him.
