Chapter 28: Traitor of Humanity, You Have Chosen Death

Primordial Power flowed into the Emperor's immortal form like molten gold through sacred channels, catalyzing profound changes within His divine physique.

His already imposing stature grew more commanding still, radiating an aura of terrible majesty that marked Him as something far beyond mortal comprehension.

The psychic dampening effects of this universe's rigid laws began to weaken under the surge of metaphysical energy. Fragments of His true power stirred like embers beneath ash, granting Him access to abilities long suppressed.

The Emperor closed His eyes, absorbing the technological revelations that flooded His consciousness with systematic precision.

Quantum Sensing Array communication protocols, multi-dimensional Sophon manufacturing techniques, Thought Steel Seal methodology—these represented technological paradigms that echoed the unrestrained ambition of the Golden Age of Technology.

The principles were not unknown to that era's greatest minds, and while the foundation of such technologies had already been explored in their time, the integration and execution witnessed here reflect a maturity and polish that even they, constrained by their era's chaos, could rarely afford.

These were not foreign miracles, but the natural continuation of paths once forged by humanity's apex minds—concepts once dreamt by gods cloaked in human form, now made manifest in full.

Properly implemented, such innovations would revolutionize Imperial governance across the galaxy.

"Should sufficient Quantum Sensing Array towers be constructed throughout the Imperium," He mused, "our dependence upon Astropaths could be significantly reduced. Communication delays that currently span months could be eliminated entirely."

The implications proved staggering. The Thought Steel Seal technology offered even greater potential—a method of ensuring absolute loyalty without the complex infrastructure required for traditional conditioning programs.

"Inexpensive, effective, requiring only basic manufacturing capability," the Emperor analyzed with the calculating precision of one who had built an empire spanning a million worlds. "Applied to Imperial Guard regiments, it would eliminate morale collapse when facing Chaos entities or xenos abominations."

Having absorbed the acquired knowledge completely, the Emperor turned His attention toward completing this world's unification.

Earth's geopolitical structure remained dominated by two superpowers alongside numerous lesser nations. The Federal States of America had been the first major power. The second—a coalition of African and Asian states known as the Pan-Eurasian Concord—represented a more formidable challenge.

The Pan-Eurasian Concord maintained marginally better stability than their fallen rival. Though food shortages plagued their territories, they had not yet descended into wholesale cannibalism. Their leadership retained structural coherence, if not competence.

After careful consideration, the Emperor elected to pursue diplomatic engagement rather than immediate conquest—calculation born not of weakness, but of strategic expediency.

The continent-spanning Concord could be more efficiently absorbed through diplomacy, sparing Imperial forces for more critical campaigns.

At the Emperor's formal invitation, the Pan-Eurasian Concord's leadership arrived via military transport for direct negotiations.

"The establishment of a new order founded upon true equality represents the aspiration of every individual who yearns for justice," the Emperor began, His voice carrying the weight of absolute conviction.

"While your administration suffers from inefficiency and corruption, it still retains a thread of concern for the masses. That alone distinguishes you from the parasitic regimes we have swept aside. Thus, I offer peaceful incorporation rather than forcible conquest."

He leaned forward, golden eyes boring into those of the delegates with the intensity of a being who had judged civilizations and found them wanting.

"You will retain limited regional authority during the provisional integration phase. In exchange, you will submit to centralized Imperial command. The Sophon threat will be neutralized, and your internal systems brought to standard."

There were no offers of sovereignty, no poetic promises—only a contract. The Emperor would wield absolute authority until the threat was ended.

"You are being granted inclusion, not favor," He declared. "The inefficiencies and corruptions in your ranks will be tolerated only until the war's conclusion. Afterward, every traitor to humanity—whether cloaked in foreign ideology or domestic incompetence—will be purged."

Faced with overwhelming force and uncompromising clarity, the Pan-Eurasian Concord submitted. They presented terms to save face.

The Emperor accepted them as formality—no oath was given, for His will required no binding but its own inevitability.

With the two superpowers unified under His banner, the remainder of Earth's fractured nations crumbled before the tide. In population, technology, industry, and force projection, the new alliance dwarfed all opposition.

The wise surrendered. The foolish were extinguished.

Thus ended the age of nations. The Human Empire rose—unchallenged, indivisible, supreme.

"Humanity's technological development remains constrained by Sophon surveillance," the Emperor declared to His assembled advisors. "Our entire civilization operates under constant enemy observation. This represents the first battle We must win."

Armed with captured Sophon manufacturing knowledge and combining it with technologies gleaned from multiple universal paradigms, the Emperor swiftly devised comprehensive countermeasures.

"We shall construct planetary ion barriers to sever Sophon quantum communication links, rendering the Three-Body Civilization effectively blind."

The solution proved elegantly simple. Ion shields would absorb free nuclear particles from the atmosphere. While Trisolarans controlled Sophons through dimensional manipulation and circuit etching, certain physical laws remained inviolate even to their advanced science.

Sophons possessed insufficient mass to resist fundamental particle attraction. Within ion barrier range, atomic nuclei lacking protons would capture the quantum devices, simultaneously blocking their communication arrays.

The result: complete Trisolaran loss of terrestrial surveillance capability.

Under Imperial directive, ion barrier transmission towers began construction across the globe—a planetary defense network that would create the first true blind zone in Sophon monitoring.

Within the Three-Body Virtual World—that digital cancer festering in Earth's information networks—ETO members gathered in emergency session.

The avatar bearing Qin Shi Huang's likeness trembled with barely contained fury.

Their strategy had been elegant in its simplicity: manipulate the Emperor into prolonged civil war, bleeding humanity's strength until Trisolaran arrival found only corpses to govern.

Instead, this being had achieved the impossible—global unification without devastating internal conflict. Such an outcome violated every prediction, every carefully calculated scenario.

Worse still, the establishment of planetary ion barriers threatened to sever their lords' connection to Earth entirely.

"Damned fool!" the Qin Shi Huang avatar snarled. "He dares challenge the cosmic order itself!"

Confucius' digital form maintained philosophical calm. "Rage serves no purpose. We must act decisively to prevent their success. Failure means our lords lose all control over this world."

"How do we stop them?" another member demanded.

"Only one option remains," declared Noy—the first successful Wallbreaker, her status within ETO hierarchy granting her direct communication privileges with their alien masters. "We must request technological assistance from our lords. Success here takes precedence over all other operations."

The suggestion received unanimous approval from the gathered fanatics.

Qin Shi Huang's avatar froze momentarily—a sign of quantum communication with distant Trisolaris—before resuming animation.

"Our lords have granted the request," he announced. Excitement rippled through the digital assembly.

"With Trisolaran technology, we cannot fail!"

"Annihilate human tyranny! The world belongs to the Three-Body!"

"This mission supersedes even the Luo Ji assassination protocol," Qin Shi Huang commanded, striking the virtual stone beneath his feet with his blade. "We must halt the Human Empire's consolidation and eliminate their so-called Emperor."

"Success here will elevate our organization's standing immeasurably. Each of you represents elite expertise in various fields. Return to your domains, devise maximum disruption strategies within your areas of influence."

"Submit operational proposals through secure channels. Time grows short—we must act with devastating speed."

The gathering dissolved as three virtual suns rose, their light reducing all participants to digital ash.

In a fortified villa on the outskirts of the former American capital, a man removed his VR interface with grim determination. Bulletproof glass sealed every window. Steel plates reinforced the walls. Independent air purification and water systems granted complete autonomy.

This was no mere residence—it was a fortress designed to withstand siege.

The man who bore the Qin Shi Huang designation paced his secured domain, mind racing through possibilities for Imperial disruption.

Knock. Knock.

"Who is it ?" he called with practiced caution.

"Plumbing inspection, sir. You filed a service request."

The ETO operative checked external surveillance feeds. A single maintenance worker stood by the entrance. No other figures visible within scanning range.

Satisfied with the apparent normalcy, he began disengaging security protocols—magnetic locks, pressure sensors, motion detectors.

As the final lock disengaged—

The reinforced door exploded inward with tremendous force, launching the man backward into the wall with bone-crushing impact. He collapsed in a broken heap, ribs shattered, unable to move beyond agonized groaning.

Beside the false maintenance worker, the air shimmered and distorted. A figure emerged from concealment—massive, gene-forged, wearing the unmistakable crimson and gold of the Adeptus Custodes.

"Permit me the courtesy of introduction," Valdor spoke with the formal dignity befitting his station. "I am Valdor, Shield-Captain of the Legio Custodes. My sacred duty involves the elimination of vermin such as yourself."

The Raven perched nearby, fixing the broken traitor with eyes that gleamed with predatory satisfaction.

"Traitor to humanity," the corvid spoke with darkly amused relish, "you have chosen death."
