Chapter 30: Obtaining Droplet and Photons Technology
Cheng Xin did not answer the other party immediately.
The other party also did not press her, simply handing her a website address.
"My codename is Sakyamuni. If you are willing to join the ETO, you can contact me using this website."
"There's one more thing I need to tell you: the Three-Body Civilization has always been tracking the spacecraft carrying Yun Tianming's brain, and the First Fleet is ready to intercept it."
"If the two civilizations reconcile, you might have a day of reunion."
Hearing news of Yun Tianming, Cheng Xin's eyes widened, and complex emotions like astonishment, joy, and excitement surged within her.
The Staircase Program had encountered an error during its implementation phase.
One of the space sail's ropes had broken, causing the spacecraft to deviate from its intended direction.
Everyone had thought Yun Tianming's brain was lost in the vastness of space.
Who would have thought the Three-Body Civilization had been tracking it all along and planned to intercept and capture it?
Before Cheng Xin could ask more, Sakyamuni bid farewell and left.
Cheng Xin fell into a complex mix of wistfulness and confusion.
She thought about many things.
She thought about Yun Tianming, about the Staircase Program, about the Dark Forest, and about how she should choose.
Unable to find answers, she walked onto the street, wandering aimlessly.
"The Emperor will save us! All glory belongs to him!"
"Praise him, sing his praises, abandon those pathetic false gods! Humanity has a living god!"
Deafening shouts echoed everywhere.
Vehicles coming and going displayed the Empire's double-headed eagle flag.
Propaganda posters of the Emperor were everywhere.
Society's worship of the Emperor reached an unprecedented height in human history.
People had come to regard him as a god who saved humanity.
Cheng Xin gazed at the Emperor's propaganda poster, feeling no excitement, only oppression.
There was no tenderness or love in this man's eyes; they were as cold as stone.
Cheng Xin could feel his ruthlessness, savagery, and bloodlust.
If sacrificing a hundred thousand lives could win a war.
He was the kind of person who would give the order without hesitation.
As for how many broken families and how many mothers' tears those hundred thousand lives represented, he did not care.
He had no love, only the absolute rationality of weighing pros and cons.
"Are you the girl with the stars?"
A voice interrupted Cheng Xin's contemplation.
She looked up in surprise, towards where the voice came from.
She saw a group of girls.
Their eyes were filled with envy as they looked at her.
A man gave everything to give the one he loved a star.
What a romantic love story, so enchanting.
In the crowd, there was a mother holding a child.
She handed the child in her arms to Cheng Xin.
"Hold her, girl with the stars."
The adorable little baby gave Cheng Xin a sweet smile.
Cheng Xin picked up the cute little bundle of joy and pressed the baby's soft, wet little face against her own.
Her heart instantly melted. She felt like she was holding the entire world, holding love.
This world needed to be protected.
Love needed to be passed on.
At this moment, Cheng Xin firmed her resolve.
She would contact the ETO member codenamed Shakyamuni as soon as she returned.
"I want to join you, to fight against the tyrant and protect both civilizations."
"Even if it means sacrificing my life, I will not hesitate, because this universe needs love."
Imperial Security Strategic Intelligence Bureau
Thomas Vader stood at rigid attention, his bearing exemplifying the disciplined perfection demanded of all who served the Throne. He was an exemplary intelligence operative—a weapon honed sharp by years of service, cunning as any predator that stalked the shadows between stars.
The Trisolaran threat remained four light-years distant, yet the war had already commenced in earnest. The Earth Trisolaran Organization festered in darkness like a malignant growth, gathering strength with treasonous intent to topple the rightful dominion of humanity.
Upon the Raven's counsel, His Imperial Majesty had deigned to grant Vader an audience—an honour that lesser men would consider the apex of their mortal existence.
"I have reviewed your service record, Thomas Vader. Your capabilities are... adequate. You demonstrate the competence expected of one who serves the Throne." The Emperor's voice carried the weight of absolute authority, each word measured and final.
"The hunt for ETO heretics presents considerable challenge. These traitors occupy positions of influence, wielding resources and intelligence networks while receiving aid from alien powers."
"Yet I possess complete confidence in your abilities. You shall complete this sacred duty."
"Remember this truth above all others—any wretch who seeks humanity's destruction forfeits their right to existence in this realm."
"They should all become nutrients for tomatoes and potatoes!" the Raven perched upon His Majesty's shoulder declared with characteristic irreverence.
"You shall become a blade wreathed in shadow, serving the light—for glorious ketchup and crispy fries, strike true, Vader!"
His Imperial Majesty endured the Raven's... unconventional proclamations with the infinite patience befitting one who ruled a million worlds, maintaining His aura of cold majesty despite the circumstances.
Vader inclined his head in acknowledgment. "I welcome this trial, my lord. Such challenges are the crucible in which true servants of the Throne are forged."
Earth - Low Orbital Defense Platform
The revived Zhang Beihai accompanied Imperial Navy Commander Chang Yue through the orbital installations, observing the transformation that had occurred during his period of stasis.
Gone were the petty squabblings between nation-states that had once plagued humanity like a cancer. No longer did corruption and self-interest drain resources that should have been consecrated to mankind's survival.
While maintaining the welfare of Imperial citizens, the unified world government could now dedicate resources to the space fleet that exceeded previous efforts tenfold.
Massive endeavors—orbital shipyards, defense platforms, long-range detection arrays—commenced with unprecedented coordination, each project a testament to humanity's resolve against alien oppression.
"The Empire advances the Nantianmen Defense Grid—a component of the Celestial Court strategic initiative," Chang Yue declared, his voice carrying the pride of one who served a worthy cause.
"Behold—the Kunpeng-class vessel currently under construction. A trans-system support platform of unprecedented scale."
Chang Yue gestured toward the colossal warship taking shape in the void—thirty kilometers of reinforced hull length, five kilometers beam, seven kilometers draught. A cathedral of war that would carry humanity's wrath to distant stars.
"His Imperial Majesty provided the blueprints personally. Sub-light propulsion systems theoretically capable of achieving eighty percent light-speed. The hull incorporates advanced alloy composites and spatial integrity fields, ensuring structural cohesion during acceleration phases that would pulverize lesser vessels."
"Once the Kunpeng achieves operational status, confronting the Trisolaran threat shall prove manageable."
"Furthermore, the Kunlun Mirror project enters preliminary phases. The Empire shall deploy quantum communication arrays beyond the Sol System's boundaries."
"Upon completion of the Kunlun Mirror detection grid, we shall command full tactical awareness beyond our system's limits, transcending the tyranny of relativistic constraints."
"This coordinated offensive shall ensure the Trisolaran menace neither achieves victory nor escape."
Zhang Beihai nodded thoughtfully. "Commander, these achievements are remarkable. Yet I have one question."
"Speak freely."
"These Imperial projects bear designations from Eastern mythology. How was this naming convention decided?"
Chang Yue's expression remained professional. "The naming committee selected mythological references from various human cultures based on project characteristics and symbolic appropriateness. The Kunpeng represents vast journeys, fitting for an interstellar vessel. Administrative efficiency guided these decisions."
Zhang Beihai displayed understanding. "A practical approach."
"Indeed. Now, let us discuss your duties," Chang Yue continued. "As Political Commissar supporting the Final War effort, your loyalty is beyond question."
"The ETO organization spreads its poison throughout Imperial territory. High Command expresses concern that seditious ideologies may infiltrate military ranks."
"You must maintain absolute control over ideological purity and prevent reactionary elements from corrupting our forces."
Zhang Beihai straightened. "I shall execute these duties with unwavering dedication, living up to the expectations of command and the citizens of the Empire."
Yet behind his determined facade, Zhang Beihai's thoughts turned toward darker considerations. The void stretched infinite and hostile beyond their small haven. Should humanity fail to break free of the sophon blockade, he would pursue escape by any means necessary.
The Empire had constructed ion barriers, severing alien surveillance. The technological disparity between humanity and the Trisolarans remained, yet no longer represented an insurmountable chasm.
As a soldier of the Empire, he could not choose the path of the coward.
"Following Imperial assessment, the Wallfacer Project is hereby terminated. Humanity acknowledges your service."
Hines and Luo Ji, recently awakened from cryogenic suspension, received news that brought immeasurable relief.
The burden of a Wallfacer had proven too great for mortal minds to bear.
Taylor had chosen the coward's path of suicide, while Rey Diaz met his end at the hands of his own people—beaten to death by those he had sought to protect.
The deaths of two Wallfacers had shattered the nerves of the survivors, filling them with dread over what judgment might await should their schemes be exposed.
Now, their duties had ended.
Freedom had returned to them.
"I request audience with the supreme ruler of the Imperium. I possess knowledge that may influence the war's outcome."
Luo Ji contemplated the weight of revelation before resolving to divulge the Dark Forest theory.
The authorities required warning against excessive optimism.
Even should the Trisolaran threat be eliminated, humanity's situation would remain far from secure.
The Emperor's Private Laboratory
His Imperial Majesty remained sequestered within His sanctum of research and contemplation.
Each universe presented unique variables—the same technologies required modification to function across dimensional boundaries.
Extensive testing ensured any knowledge He bestowed upon the Imperial Research Adeptus would prove functional rather than theoretical.
As He completed localization protocols for nova cannon technology—weapons capable of accelerating projectiles to light-speed—familiar words manifested before Him.
"Destiny Node altered by 15%. Acquired: Droplet Detector Technology. Acquired: Light-Particle Weapon Technology. Acquired: Microcosm Construction Technology."
"Well," the Raven commented from his shoulder perch, "that's what I call productive multitasking. Though I still say we should've grabbed some of that sci-fi coffee machine tech while we were at it."
His Imperial Majesty maintained His eternal patience, though the corner of His mouth might have twitched—imperceptibly, of course.
