Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Why buy books? Can't I just memorize them?

Levid and Tom spent quite a bit of time in the wand shop.

Levid's performance gave Ollivander some insights that only he could understand.

He didn't even charge Tom or Levid...

Standing at the door of the wand shop, Tom's eyes flickered with confusion.

"What's going on? Now that I have money, I can't spend it?"

"If you want to spend money... you can buy my list for me..."

Levid happily handed over his list.

"Buy your own things!"

Tom said, turning and walking away quickly, as if something filthy was chasing him.

Levid shook his head helplessly.

Kids become independent when they have money.

After a few moments of reflection, he followed his shopping list and went on a methodical tour of Diagon Alley.

It was already three in the afternoon, late, and they had to get back to the Wu Orphanage before dark.

Levid was quick, and soon he arrived at Flourish and Blotts, carrying a large bag of things.

This was his last stop of the day, and also the one he'd been looking forward to the most.

Of course... it was also the one Tom had been looking forward to the most.

Levi had already spotted him. Tom was now absorbed in a variety of spell books.

However, he didn't bother him; he had his own things to do.

He checked the time, thinking it was still early.

Levi handed his list of textbooks to the clerk, asking him to bring them over.

The clerk skillfully helped Levi with the books.

Levi walked alone through the towering shelves, searched briefly, and then pulled out a book to begin reading.

  We should go!"

Levi felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned and saw Tom.

The setting sun shone through the bookstore's doors. It was already late.

Levi turned, quickly flipping through the last few pages of the book he was holding, and then he and Tom approached the counter.

Their textbooks were already packed and placed there.

Next to Tom's textbooks, there was another pile of books. Presumably, these were the other books he needed to buy.

Tom frowned at the pile of books and the large and small packages, feeling a bit overwhelmed.

"Can you mail these books to us?" Levitra asked politely. "There are too many. We can't move them."

"Of course. Please write down your address." The clerk smiled and handed over a pen and paper.

"Can you mail these for us as well?" Levitra brought the other items to the clerk.

"Yes, but since they're not our books, there's a handling fee."

"No problem," Levitra agreed readily. He didn't mind the small amount.

After writing down the address, the two of them walked out of Flourish and Blotts empty-handed.

Aside from their wands, they had chosen to ship everything they bought today.

"You didn't buy any other books?" Tom looked at Levitra in confusion.

He had just noticed that Levitra hadn't bought any books other than the textbooks required by the school.

Tom knew Levid well. He was just as hungry for power as he was.

How could he possibly give up buying spellbooks to increase his power?

"I bought a lot of magic automatic sketch pens and a lot of parchment," Levid said happily.

"Why did you buy those things?" Tom asked doubtfully.

Li Weide asked in surprise, "I have memorized all the books I'm interested in. I can just write them down when I get home. Why should I buy them?"

"Tsk..." Tom didn't believe even a single punctuation mark of Li Weide's boasting.

Tom didn't know that Levander was not bragging, because he really had the ability to remember everything he saw...

Levander looked at the clock in the roadside store and suddenly sighed, "Instead of worrying about this, you might as well think about how to explain to Mrs.

Cole later. We have been missing for a whole twelve hours..."

Tom's face changed instantly when he heard this, "You... are you going to tell her that I took you out to have fun all day?"

Levander blinked, "Isn't it... not? It was you who suggested sneaking out this morning. Besides, I'm a 'good' kid... Do you think Mrs. Cole believes you or me?"

"Fuck! If you hadn't insisted on robbing the thieves, we would have come back a long time ago!"

"So what? You didn't spend the money you earned? Those books you bought at Flourish and Blotts Books were one or two gold galleons each. If you hadn't gone with me, how could you have bought so many?"

  "You... you bastard!"

"To be honest, you have received so many benefits, shouldn't you make a little contribution and take the blame? You can't just eat for free, right?"

"Freeloader? You... didn't I do anything? Who summoned those snakes when we raided the human traffickers' lair?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then we summoned Nagini. We almost got killed, didn't we?"

"You're shameless, aren't you? That was clearly your idea!"

"I don't care... you just dragged me out."

"You... you don't think I'm really scared of that old cat, do you?"

  "Then you're taking the blame!"

  "No! I refuse!"

  "Are you afraid of me?"

  "You... you're so cruel!"

The two of them walked back, arguing. By the time they reached the orphanage, it was completely dark.

After walking so far, Tom felt like his legs didn't belong to him anymore...

But beside him, Levitra didn't look tired at all.

He'd walked several kilometers, but he still looked energetic.

"Why aren't you tired at all?" Tom panted. In his entire life, he had never walked so far in one go!

"Well, I bought some temporary potion to strengthen my body... You know what potions are, right? The kind that..."

"I know what they are!" Tom said angrily. "Why didn't you remind me to buy some too?"

"Someone didn't seem to want to go with me, so what could I do? So I had to buy it myself."

"You..." Tom felt like his lungs were about to explode with anger. He really wanted to argue, but he was in the wrong, so he couldn't refute at all...

Just as he was about to draw his wand and fight Levitra, frustrated, "It seems... you guys are very busy today."

A familiar voice came from the shadows.

Levitra and Tom stopped talking instantly, as if under a silencing spell.

Dumbledore slowly emerged from the shadows, his scrutinizing eyes falling on the two children before him.

Tom felt his blood run cold... He really hated that feeling!

"Good evening, Professor Dumbledore. What a coincidence, meeting you here..."

  Levitra broke the silence.

He glanced at the orphanage gate behind Dumbledore. Obviously, this is no coincidence... Dumbledore is definitely waiting for them here!
