A teacher led them to a row of houses behind a grove of trees on the west side of the Spirit Ice Plaza before stopping. "This is the dormitory for working students. Find your rooms according to the numbers on your keys. Formal enrollment begins the day after tomorrow—just follow the instructions from the academic office. I'll take my leave now."
Looking at the shabby little building, Bai Xu was reminded of the worst-ranked university dormitories from videos in his past life. It wasn't an exact match, but the resemblance was uncanny.
The single-story structure was low and visibly dilapidated. A small grove stood in front, but it felt more like a barrier meant to hide the place from view—lest it embarrass the academy.
The row of single-room houses numbered over twenty, their walls mottled with age. Some didn't even have glass in their windows, giving off a thoroughly rundown impression.
Walking down the dim, narrow corridor, Gu Yue glanced at the room number on her key and sighed. "You really did know it'd be one room."
"You were the one who insisted on being a working student with me. Don't call me a pervert—we're barely twelve. Besides, Gu Yue… even though you've become smoother, you still can't hide your emotions well. You've still fallen for it."
Gu Yue's steps faltered for a moment. The sudden realization made her pause several paces behind Bai Xu before she replied earnestly, "Yes. For you."
Bai Xu turned back, looking at her standing there, and smiled faintly before continuing forward. "Then you'd better brace yourself."
Gu Yue laughed as well, her steps lightening. "I know. A hundred years from now, we might not achieve our ambitions, so we should cherish the present. No matter who comes out on top in the end, at least when they stand at the continent's peak and look back, they'll have more to reminisce about."
"Oh? You've become quite insightful."
The two stopped in front of a worn wooden door. After checking the number, they unlocked it to find a room of about thirty square meters. Inside was nothing but the bare metal frame of a bunk bed—no mattress, no other furniture.
The floor was thick with dust, but at least the window was intact, and the light bulb still worked.
"Looks like living conditions are tough…" Bai Xu sighed as faint ripples began emanating from his body.
Water flowed outward from him, spreading across the room, sweeping away the dust and washing the walls. With a wave of his hand, golden light flashed, slicing the bunk bed in half. The falling frame was caught by vines sprouting from the gaps in the floor tiles, gently depositing it against the opposite wall.
Watching his effortless manipulation, Gu Yue couldn't help but praise, "You wield elemental power even more deftly than I do. Who knew cleaning could be so efficient?"
Bai Xu grinned. "Skills aren't just honed in battle. Come on, let's go buy some supplies."
"Mm. But working students have mandatory tasks assigned by the academy. I think we're supposed to clean Spirit Ice Plaza regularly."
As they walked and talked, the long corridor remained eerily empty except for them. The second floor seemed occupied, but they didn't recognize anyone.
Just then, the Spirit of the Plane manifested on its own, taking the form of a large yellow dog and perching on Bai Xu's shoulder. "I sense the aura of another plane—the Demon Plane. If I recall correctly, the one carrying its seed is named Yuanen Yehui."
Gu Yue blinked. "The Demon Plane?"
The Spirit of the Plane explained, "In the universe, countless planes are constantly being born and destroyed. The Demon Plane can project its power by implanting a seed of corruption into a human soul master, triggering mutation. Yuanen Yehui's mother was one such case. Those implanted with the seed become spies for the Demon Plane, lying dormant in other worlds. When the time is right, they open the Demon Gate, linking their plane to ours."
Bai Xu mused, "You want to devour the Demon Plane?"
"Heh, if you grow strong enough, I wouldn't mind."
"That'll take some time… We'll approach Yuanen Yehui later. If we absorb the Demon Plane, could you match Tang Hao?"
"Probably."
"Good."
Gu Yue listened to their exchange, baffled. "Shouldn't such a threat be eliminated outright? Why leave a potential danger?"
The Spirit of the Plane hopped onto her shoulder. "By the natural order of the plane, this problem would be left to the Child of Destiny to resolve. But I need to recover, so I'm counting on him."
Gu Yue frowned. "You're that confident he can take on an entire plane alone? Even I couldn't do that before regaining my strength."
The dog patted her forehead. "There are many secrets between planes. Respecting the unknown is fundamental. But in a multiverse where power is concentrated in the individual, there are hardly any planes weaker than ours."
With that, both turned to look at Bai Xu, who walked ahead with unwavering confidence. Whether it was an act or genuine belief in his future strength, even the Spirit of the Plane couldn't tell.
It also didn't know what entity Tang Hao had prayed to when devouring it. The chaotic, disordered sensation of that moment had blurred its memories.
"Ugh, the future just keeps getting messier," Gu Yue sighed before quickening her pace to catch up.
After purchasing supplies and completing enrollment formalities—receiving their Shrek Academy student IDs—Bai Xu hauled their bags back to the dorm. "Let's grab a meal first. We'll tidy up when we return."
"Mm."
———
Night.
After some cleaning, Bai Xu finally sat on his bed. Glancing at Gu Yue on the opposite bunk, he crossed his legs and entered a meditative state.
Among the Five Elements, four were already perfected—only Fire remained. He estimated he'd achieve full mastery within half a year.
The Six Viscera realm felt more like an extension of the Five Organs. Each organ paired with a viscus—yin and yang, internal and external.
Next was the Meridian Opening stage, focusing on the twelve primary meridians with the eight extraordinary meridians as supplements. The body's entire system—organs, limbs, flesh, tendons, and orifices—was interconnected through these channels. Legend said that upon completing this stage, one's Five Elements physique would take initial form.
From there, a Five Elements physique could ascend toward Yin-Yang, then further into Chaos. Alternatively, it could manifest all things in existence, bestowing creation. At its peak, the physique could condense an entire world within one's palm—and hurl it at enemies.
Bai Xu frowned inwardly. But this manual only describes how to forge the physique, not how to cultivate it afterward…
Seems there's deeper profundity after the initial breakthrough.
Amused, he joked to himself, 'A Saint Body at its peak can challenge an Emperor. So my physique, freshly formed, should at least rival the Dragon God, right?'
Outside, Gu Yue noticed the faint smile on his lips and wondered what he was thinking. Their first night sharing a room should've been eventful, but seeing how engrossed he was in cultivation, she decided to meditate as well.
