"You need to leave." My voice shakes, but it's firm, clipped, each word edged like glass. "I don't know how you found me, but I don't want you here. I don't need you in my life."
I shove the door forward, ready to slam it in her face, to cut her off before she can spew whatever excuse she dragged here with her, but her hand shoots out, palm flat against the wood, keeping it from shutting.
"Please." Her voice cracks, a plea wrapped in exhaustion. "Just… just hear me out."
I freeze for a moment, studying her. God, I wish I hadn't. I wish I could've just walked away without looking. But my eyes betray me.
