The basketball court was already buzzing with life when we arrived.
The sound of bouncing balls and sneakers squeaking against the polished surface echoed like a pulse, sharp and rhythmic.
It should've been comforting, the normal chaos of sports, but I couldn't shake the feeling that people's eyes were darting toward me. Whispering. Pointing.
They probably were.
I caught sight of a group of girls near the far bench, their gazes cutting toward me before they turned to murmur among themselves. I swallowed hard, pretending to adjust the hem of my joggers.
To my shock, Alicia was on the court, stretching.
So she was also playing...
"Scholarship slapper, you came," she called out with a grin that was equal parts welcoming and commanding.
I groaned while she just chucked. "This'll be fun. You're with me."
Before I could respond, Dante was already abandoning me, moving toward the other side of the court. Alicia shot him a glance.
"I'll be back." She said.
