I blinked. "Wait—what?"
Freya paused mid-yawn. "Ava? Like… Ava Ava?"
"Yes, Ava Ava." I was already scrambling out of bed, my heart leaping in my chest. "What is she doing here? She didn't tell me she was coming!"
I didn't even bother changing properly. I just yanked on the nearest hoodie, tugged my messy hair into a half-hearted bun, and rushed for the door.
Freya smirked, leaning back against her pillows. "Wow, so I guess I'm officially chopped liver now, huh? Fine. Go to your precious Ava."
I shot her a grin over my shoulder before bolting outside.
And there she was.
Ava Bennett, my best friend from Braywick, standing at the bottom of the dorm steps with her usual sunshine smile, dressed in the most un-Ava outfit I'd ever seen, baggy sweatpants, an oversized hoodie, and sneakers that had definitely seen better days. Blonde hair, bright chestnut eyes.
"Ava!" I practically threw myself at her, wrapping her in a hug. "What are you doing here?!"
