Ethan stared blankly at the Obsidian Knight. He couldn't help it—the knight was spectacular. Just like its name, it was draped in obsidian armor. The armor was jagged and brazen. The knight stood 8 feet tall, emitting a grey aura of death, its red eyes beaming with malice beneath the obsidian helmet.
Its blade was a broadsword, also obsidian, but smooth and emitting sharpness. Ethan knew he was in a dire fight. He couldn't escape it.
Yes, it was strong—but Ethan wouldn't give up that easily. He didn't give up in the beginning.
Slowly but instinctively, Ethan began circulating his mana. He was going to give it his all.
BANG
Smooth and solid—the Obsidian Knight moved its sword only an inch from Ethan's neck. The breeze scattered violently around him.
Ethan quickly drew his sword in time to counter the blow.
"Fast indeed… I couldn't even see him coming," Ethan said, drawing breath.
In the next split second—Flashes.
BANG! BOOM!
Ethan was thrown dozens of meters away. Dozens of sword marks could be seen on his armor. This surprised Ethan. He quickly calmed himself to avoid messing up his battle focus. He added 5 stat points to Strength and 5 to Speed so he could match the thing in speed.
> [Attributes: Strength 60, Agility 32, Stamina 35, Speed 55, Mana 20]
Ethan felt energy course through his veins. The feeling was like taking steroids. BOOM!
He launched forward with speed, using Star Sword Technique Level 1 to perfection. His blade slowed the Obsidian Knight's movement and broadsword, but it was still a monster—it avoided Ethan's crushing blows.
The Knight's overbearing broadsword skills and Ethan's pressuring blade clashed in the ominous room.
For some reason, the hall was still intact.
"Is this a mutant beast or a sacred beast?" Ethan cursed.
He remembered that the system didn't tell him whether it was a sacred beast or not—all it said was its level.
Ethan jumped back, barely missing a strike. A slice appeared on his cheek, blood trickling down.
After a short pause, the Obsidian Knight lunged again.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Repeated sword strokes rang in the air.
"Die!" Ethan shouted, seeing an opening and striking the Knight on its belly.
BOOOM!
Ethan made sure to put effort into that strike. The belly shattered—black blood splashed everywhere. The Knight staggered back. Its red eyes constricted.
Ethan felt a cold substance on his shoulder. Somehow, gods know how, the Obsidian Knight's broadsword had pierced an opening in his armor.
Upon the Knight's apparent death, Ethan could see undying will in its red, menacing eyes. It removed its broadsword and clashed with Ethan again.
> [Warning: The Obsidian Knight has activated the skill
[All attributes will be increased by +5 and the nightmare shall know no pain]
"Nightmare? What a nightmare," Ethan muttered.
He thought this was a high-level beast or sacred beast—but it wasn't. It was a Nightmare.
BANG!
Ethan dodged a sword strike. By now his mana had been cut in half.
"Fuck it!" Ethan summoned the Ork Chief.
Immediately the Ork Chief came banging in with its axe. Ethan also tied down the Obsidian Knight, making sure it didn't pose a threat to the Ork Chief.
"Eh, no matter how formidable you are… you're still going to die." Ethan smirked.
The Knight was indeed formidable. With its attributes increasing, its speed now surpassed Ethan's.
Ethan was afraid—if he hadn't summoned the Ork Chief, maybe he'd be gone by now.
Not to mention… he couldn't flee—the hall door was tightly shut.
Ethan inflicted serious damage on the Knight, but just like the system said—it didn't flinch.
Ethan was a little annoyed.
"Then take this!" he shouted.
BANG!
He hit the Knight, sending it flying a few meters back.
Ethan then performed [Space Teleportation]. He had already used up his mana on this last strike. If he missed—death awaited him.
SLASH!
The head of the Knight was sent flying.
The already crumbled obsidian armor shattered to pieces.
Ethan fell flat on the ground—he was exhausted. Perhaps his stamina wasn't enough.
> [Congratulations! You have slain the Nightmare: Obsidian Knight]
[Combat Soul Gained]
[Stamina, Agility, and Mana increased by +20]
Ethan felt a refreshing feeling wash over him. He quickly stood up, realizing he was out of danger.
He scanned the area to make sure there was no more threat.
"Phew… that was tough," Ethan sighed.
In fact, nothing had been simple since he came here.
"The guy was surely protecting something, right?" Ethan thought.
He quickly stood up and rushed toward the end of the hall.
"Bingo!" Ethan could see it.
High on a pillar, he saw an obsidian chest—small like a pot.
Ethan quickly grabbed it, not wasting time.
BANG!
Bright light shined everywhere.
> [Congratulations! You have gained the Map of the Giant Kingdom]
[Congratulations! You have gained the Emperor Ming Script]
[Congratulations! Your inventory has leveled up to Level 2
"Eh, not bad," Ethan said.
He summoned the [Emperor Ming Script] and began examining it.
