"Aveline? Are you okay?" Freya's hands moved faster than her words, as she began to pat Aveline on the back.
"Water–she needs water." Riley poured out a glass, and handed it to Freya.
"Here, Ave. Drink from this."
Aveline, trying not to lift her head, turned to the side, as she accepted this glass.
She drank all of it, and immediately felt relief in her lungs. But her heart didn't stop pounding.
"Aveline?" The pizza guy called, when the dust began to settle.
They all turned to him, shocked at his audacity to just hurl out her name like that.
"Hey, are you nuts?" Riley was quick to ask.
Craig shifted his gaze to the person asking. "No, I'm not," he replied confidently.
Aveline's already tensed shoulders began to ache. The odds had never fully been in her favour. Yet, she couldn't believe that Craig of all people was their pizza delivery guy.
