"Sorry if I made you feel like you're actually useless. I know what that feels like having people look at you like you're nothing but some annoying fly," Fenris says, and though the words come out low, there's something in the way he says it, something softer, so unexpectedly gentle that it startles Axel.
Axel stares at him, like he can't quite believe what he just heard. Like he can't believe the word sorry actually came out of Fenris's mouth, for a second, he doesn't know how to process that.
And Axel truly hates how his own mind still twists in on itself, manipulated again by just the words.
Because even if Fenris never pointed the finger directly at him, even if he didn't explicitly say you, it doesn't erase the fact that he meant him. That he was talking about Axel. There's no question about that.
