Chapter 6 - A Serious Student.

Four weeks later, Savannah returned to school. Her ankle is now okay and she has removed the ankle brace. On a Wednesday morning, Savannah walked towards her classroom and as she got to the door, she sucked in her breath in hesitation and opened the door. When she entered the class, a literature class just started and Mrs Florence smiled at her.

Welcome back, Savannah, Mrs Florence said. Good morning, ma'am, Savannah said and gently bowed. You can go and sit down. I hope you're fine now though, she said and Savannah nodded and walked to her seat and sat down beside Ryan who was delighted to see her in school again.

You didn't tell me you were coming to school today when we were together yesterday, he said.

Well, I'm here now and I'm happy to be here sitting beside you but as from today we're gonna focus in class so that we can be straight A's students together, she said and Ryan rolled his eyeballs.

Okay, open your poems textbook to page 79, Mrs Florence said and the the students did as she said.

It was lunchtime and students already left the class but Savannah brought her poems textbook and started reading it like she was obsessed with it. Ryan left the class to the cafeteria and came back with two doughnuts and two cans of soda. He placed the snack on the table to distract Savannah who he knows is a foodie and Savannah looked at him slightly and turned to the snacks with a huge smile.

Thanks, she said and quickly took a bite out of the doughnut.

What were you reading that kept you in another world?, Ryan asked and Savannah took a sip out of the soda and took another bite then looked at Ryan as she stuffed another huge bite into her mouth.

She swallowed the bite, I'm obsessed with these poems that I feel like writing poems too, Savannah said energetically. Then, you can join the school's poet club and write your own poems.

Why didn't I think of that?, she asked excitedly as she took another sip out of the soda.

Maybe because you're dumb, Ryan said and Savannah hit him on the head as she frowned and Ryan chuckled which made Savannah smile.

Let me finish this and I'll be going to the club, she said and quickly stuffed all the remaining doughnut in her mouth and drank all the soda. Bye, she said and left the classroom and as soon as she left the class she met Maya. That both stopped each other in their tracks and stared at each other.

What are you trying to do?, Maya asked. I don't understand what you're asking me, Savannah replied as she was confused.

I noticed you focused on class today, why were you focused?, Maya asked. Well, I'm trying to be a straight A's student, what's wrong with that?, Savannah asked.

Do you get tutored everyday or do you even have a permanent tutor, Maya asked as her nose wrinkled in exaggerated displeasure but Savannah couldn't say a word because Mrs Enzo didn't teach her everyday as Mrs Enzo was heavily pregnant.

It's not easy to be a straight A's student and even if it was easy you'll never be a straight A's student cause your IQ is in the thrash can, Maya said and started walking away.

Bet it with me, I'll be a straight A's student, Savannah said aloud enough for Maya to hear but Maya walked away.

Savannah exhaled and kept on going to the poets club. She eventually got to the poets club and after registration, Mrs Florence, their Literature teacher who is also their coordinator entered into the room the school's poet uses for their meetings and lectures with Savannah by her side.

Good afternoon, future poets. We have a new member, tell us your name, she said and Savannah looked at everyone in the eye.

My name is Savannah Will and I'll be a member of this club as from today, she said as Maya, Dawn and Co looked at her like she was the worst kind of dirt.
