Chapter 48 - The True Power

Basement Level 1.

The elevator doors slowly opened, and Tina hesitantly followed Jino out.

Her eyes widened, unable to believe what she was seeing.

This was a vast experimental base.

Rows of experimental tanks were neatly arranged in the center of the base.

Scientists in white lab coats busily worked in an orderly fashion. It was like an ant colony, bustling with activity yet full of order.

"Wh-what are those two things?" Tina asked, staring in horror at the objects submerged in the tanks.

In the deep green nutrient solution, there was a naked, pale, headless corpse.

The other corpse was as ugly and terrifying as a flayed zombie from a horror story.

Jino scoffed, "You killed your own mother, yet you're afraid of two corpses. How interesting."

Tina lowered her head in silence. She wanted to explain that she had accidentally pushed her mother down the stairs, that it was just an accident.

But the words caught in her throat, and she couldn't say anything.

"Lex."

Jino sought out the owner of this laboratory, his cheap older brother, whose bald head was instantly recognizable in the crowd.

Lex glanced at Jino, then at Tina beside him, raising an eyebrow. "Is this the girl?"

"That's right. She can transform into anyone she's seen," Jino shrugged. "She'll be useful to me."

Jino's plan was simple: he wanted to send this girl to Talia as an informant.

However, just as Jino didn't trust Talia, he also needed to impose restrictions on Tina.

Tina kept her head down, but her ears were perked, committing their conversation to memory.

She couldn't help but recall the ten minutes prior, when Jino had used a camera to test her transformation abilities.

From the woman in the camera, to Lana Lang, to Chloe, the experiment only stopped when she could no longer maintain her transformation.

For a moment, Tina's head buzzed. She was somewhat afraid that he would throw her here too, to become another specimen for the laboratory.

"Then let's begin."

Lex waved his hand, and soon two scientists approached, carrying a needle.

"Wait, what are you going to do to me? I, I don't want an injection." Tina's face was filled with fear as she shook her head and backed away.

"Don't be nervous," Jino said, glancing at Tina in explanation. "This needle contains a little gadget called a nano-bomb."

"It will be implanted into your neck through the needle."

Jino smiled, speaking in the gentlest tone words that sent shivers down Tina's spine: "After that, through satellite control, no matter where you are, all it takes is pressing a button, and the bomb in your neck will detonate, blowing your head and body to smithereens."

With that, Jino brought his five fingers together and then spread them apart, mimicking a firework exploding.

To be honest, this idea of his came from a movie he'd watched in his previous life called Suicide Squad.

In that movie, Amanda, that old, dark-skinned, fat woman, used this exact method to control a group of vicious anti-heroes to do her bidding.

Jino thought it was a brilliant idea. Not long after Talia left, he told Lex about it.

From now on, whenever he encountered someone disobedient, he would implant a nano-bomb in their body, and then…

And his older brother didn't disappoint. Lex fully utilized his intelligence, diligence, and extraordinary wealth, taking only a week to create the nano-bomb, linking it to LexCorp's satellites for remote control anytime, anywhere.

"Na-nano-bomb?!"

Tears welled up in Tina's eyes as she frantically shook her head. "No, I don't want something like that installed in my body. It's too terrifying."

Imagine, if one day she lost her usefulness or knew too much, Jino could simply press a button and send her to hell.

This feeling of her life being in someone else's hands terrified Tina.

"Heh heh." Looking at the crying Tina, Jino smiled and shook his head. "It seems you still don't understand."

Jino approached Tina, then mercilessly raised his palm.

Smack!

The girl stumbled and fell to the ground. A red mark quickly appeared on her delicate face. She shook her head indignantly, pushing aside her messy hair, and saw Jino squatting down with a smile on his face, but his voice was cold as he said, "I'm not negotiating with you; this is an order."

This stupid woman doesn't even think. Is his money so easy to come by?

Tina covered her cheek, bit her lip, and said, "I, I understand."

The girl slowly stood up, watching the two scientists approach her.

And she prepared herself to face her impending fate.

After witnessing the horrors of this laboratory, Tina didn't believe Jino would trick her.

"It hurts."

Tina rubbed her neck. She wasn't sure if it was psychological, but ever since the needle pierced her skin, she felt a constant discomfort in her body.

Jino ignored the resentful woman. He brought Tina back to his Castle.

"Young Master."

The old Butler stepped out to greet him.

Jino pointed at the girl:

"This is Tina, she's a classmate of mine. Pick out a room for her on the first floor; she'll be staying here tonight."

"Very good." The old Butler nodded and led Tina away, while Jino returned to his own room. After opening his computer, he sent a message to Talia in his contacts.

Demon Island.

Inside the League of Assassins' secret stronghold, within a cold stone grotto, the League leader Ra's al Ghul fixed his hawk-like gaze on the young man before him. "You wish to learn martial arts? For what purpose?"

"For myself," the young man replied with a calm expression, "for some things that must be accomplished."

"Interesting."

It had been a long time since Ra's al Ghul had seen a young man like this. He could see a flame burning in the young man's eyes.

A flame, named vengeance, whose temperature was enough to incinerate everything. This sparked a fondness for talent in Ra's al Ghul's heart. He nodded and sneered, "Then, go and undertake the League's initiation trial. As long as you survive, I will personally instruct you in martial arts."

The young man nodded and left.

After he was gone, Ra's al Ghul turned to look at the shadowy corner behind him. "What do you think of him?"

"What do I think?" A figure emerged from the shadows. Under the moonlight, a pair of legs slowly walked towards Ra's al Ghul.

His gaze moved upwards.

Having not seen her for a long time, Talia's aura was even colder.

A slight sneer played on her lips. Her foolish father simply didn't understand what true power was like.

An invulnerable body, terrifying speed and reaction time, and that despair-inducing pressure.

To be honest, Talia hadn't seen a hint of a strong person in the young man just now, but she knew she couldn't defy her father.

So, she smiled and said, "My thoughts align with yours, Leader."

Hearing the woman's reply, Ra's al Ghul exhaled a satisfied breath from his nostrils and waved his hand, signaling his daughter to leave.
