Evania's tone was sharp, but her eyes betrayed the fear she tried to hide.
"Make sure you don't partake in this madness of his. I'm not prepared to be a widow at such a tender age, and if you dare die before me, I will make it my life's goal to see you suffer even in death."
It was meant to sound like a threat, but Varek knew it was her way of begging him to be careful.
He stopped what he was doing and looked at her. The fire in her glare had softened into something almost fragile, a stark contrast to the words she'd just spoken.
"Dying is never an option," he said quietly, walking to her side. "You don't have to worry about me."
He crouched slightly, lowering himself to her eye level. "I've yet to enjoy my wife to the fullest. I still want to hold my pups in my arms… and my grandchildren too. Where would I disappear to before that happens?"
He gave a faint smirk. "Besides, even death would think twice after seeing your angry expression. It wouldn't dare to snatch me away."
