It was the day after the parade. Alara looked down at her clothe ridden bed while in her white night gown. She hadn't gotten around to cleaning it up, as she spent the night at Demi's home after dropping off her purchases.
I better do this now rather than delaying it any longer. Alara clicked her tongue as she began sorting out her clothes into her wardrobe.
Dad's not going to be home till night again. She made a slightly poutful expression, her folding movements becoming slightly angered, but a moment later, a smile blessed her face.
Well, that means I can head to the library again, hehe. Her pleasant thoughts automated her folding hands, as she did a little dance while folding.
Tap, Tap, Tap.
A knock came from downstairs, extricating Alara from her own world. Rushing downstairs, Alara was dumbfounded as she never had a visitor during the early hours of the day. Could it be Demi returning an item she forgot at her place? Or her father? Alara didn't know, but she was curious.
I could be Demi? I always forget things despite being a Learner…well they can't blame me for it, I just have priorities on what I remember. She walked to the door theorizing on who it might be on the way down.
She walked past her living room and kitchen filled with mismatched furniture, like a mahogany couch sewn with seaweed cushions sitting next two and an elegant wooden chair coated in white paint. Or the crude, blonde colored coffee table holding a stylish lime vase.
Once at the wooden door, Alara placed her hand on the handle and opened it. In the next moment she bowed and said respectfully."Oh, Councilor Spyro, welcome."
Standing at the outside of the door, Spyro fixed his black hair with a hand and placed the other on Alara's head, rubbing her luscious red hair as if she was but a pup.
"Child, do you have tea?" Spyro said with a smile walking past Alara.
What's Councilor Spyro doing here? Does he want my father? Alara quickly speedwalked towards the kitchen to brew some tea.
Ugh, I'm still in my night gown, how could I be so careless. Alara placed a kettle on top of a wood stove, then ran back upstairs to change into a more presentable outfit.
Minutes later, Alara came back down in a plain yellow sundress.
This will have to do. Alara shook her head at what she wore, the yellow of the dress looked out of place against her red hair as she made her way down into the kitchen.
What? Alara was confused, as right in front of her, Councilor Spyro was watching the water boil as opposed to being seated in the living room.
Spyro turned to her, an innocent smile playing on his face and a hand pointed at the entrance where charcoal was fed to the wood stove."Careless girl, you could have set your whole house to flames."
Alara looked at where he was pointing, on the boarded floor, the remains of what looked like a cloth laid, her gaze lifted a bit, seeing a piece of cloth, hanging from the stove gates, half burned.
"I'm so sorry Councilor Spyro, thank you for noticing." Her voice tinged with embarrassment with her face reddening.
She quickly rushed to the spot where the white cloth once burned, grabbing a straw broom on her way and then dusted away the black char on the ground.
Looking up at Spyro, Alara made an awkward smile then said."Please councilor, rest in the living room."
Spyro didn't object, he leisurely walked out the kitchen observing the unique furniture of her home.
Soon after, Alara was done with brewing the tea and brought a tray to the living room, with two differently designed cups. She poured Spyro a cup of tea and offered it to him, in which he took the cup and placed it on the table. Alara poured herself a cup as well then sat down opposite of Spyro.
Her chair was crude and had scuffs and bruises to its legs, while Spyro sat cross legged on an elegant, glossy mahogany wood, and soft cushioning.
Why is he not saying anything? Alara held her cup in both hands anxiously as she watched Councilor Spyro's gaze wander around her home.
Suddenly Spyro spoke."Do you believe your father has secrets, child?"
Alara almost spilt her tea from his unexpected speech, steading herself, she tilted her head and said."Well, doesn't everyone have secrets?"
"Not your father, he is one of the most just men I have ever met. Friendly, funny, and the way he speaks, ahhh, he is a sensation!" Spyro said smiling.
"Thank you."Alara said, her face flushed.
Uncrossing his legs, Spyro leaned forward smoothly."But your friend's a different story."
What does that have to do with anything? Did he come here for my father or me? Alara's head tilted more, confused as she was, she asked."Did you want my father, Councilor Spyro? He should be in the dungeons right now."
"No no no, I came here to play detective with you." Spyro said, as his innocent smile widened.
"I'm sorry, councillor, I don't understand what you mean. You want me to stalk my friends?" Alara asked, confusion and skepticism glimmering in her eyes.
"No, I want you to save this village. You see, your friend Memor has a secret that may threaten the village's safety." Spyro leaned back on his comfy sofa, crossing his legs again.
"I'm sorry, Councilor Spyro, I sadly can't help you with such matters."Alara said, her gazing shifting to one of contempt.
"Oh, no need to worry, then I just have to find such secrets in your father." Spyro stated.
"What? I thought you said he had no secrets." Alara said hesitantly, she could almost guess his next words.
"No he doesn't, but he could." Spyro smiled."A secret not to destroy the village, but himself. I wonder what joke he will make once his head is on stake."
I can't report him to the other council members. The fact that he said what he said, means he is not scared of what the others might think. Alara's eyes were filled with indignation and helplessness staring at the man in front of her.
"Child, I appreciate your loyalty to a boy you just met a few days ago, but there are always others, like uhh, Councilor Vicktor's son." Spyro said, his smile widening to a disturbing degree.
Finally in the silence of the presence of both, Spyro picked his cup and took a sip of tea then said disgustedly."Ugh, even worse than Ceres's, tsk what did I expect from a little girl."
Spyro brought the cup to his side, then outstretched the hand, slowly he began rotating the cup till all the tea had spilled on the floor. Alara watched quietly, her eyes glistening much more than usual as tears welled up in her eyes.
"I'll be waiting for your news child." Spyro said, smiling, in the next moment, his body rippled then disappeared. Leaving a cup hanging midair.
As it crashed to the ground, Alara, overwhelmed, fell to the ground, her tears followed as well In the silence of the living room.
