Chapter 10 - Peaceful Recuperation Pt3

Fraser had already begun on his journey.

On his map, there was a point located south east on South Fable, named "Merchant Festival". This was a point of interest to him, a busy trade area would be great for making quick glimmers and purchasing necessities. However, the spot was quite far from where he currently was. A Void Glyph was placed onto this map, imbuing it with the ability of pinpointing and marking the current location of the map onto it. This wasn't any sort of high tier skill, it was a basic technique used for information gathering that any arcane type was capable of. Void Glyphs are shapes and sequences that are imagined by a sorcerer and outputted before the activation of a technique.

The higher tier and strength of a technique, the more technical and complex the glyph. Due to the sheer simplicity, tier two and one techniques don't exert visible Void Glyphs, only extremely high-end tier two techniques, and anything above that did. During the deduction of a new technique, a sorcerer would have to create a corresponding Void Glyph, the colour, shape, complexity, size, nature, and amount of layers were all factors which decided the effect that the technique would achieve. All of these factors can be changed by the sorcerer just by their imagination while activating the technique. For example, if Fraser wanted to increase the area of effect of his suppress sound technique, he would simply have to imagine a larger glyph, which would then encompass a larger area, but use up more arcane accordingly. Since suppress sound is a mid level tier two technique, the glyph that constructs it isn't visible as it is too simple to have the requirement of being projected into the outside world.

The colour of the glyph is determined by the emotion used to construct certain parts of the glyph, for example if a layer of the glyph was red, indicating an emotion like wrath or spite, it would mean the glyph may have offensive properties, or if it was green, it could resemble healing properties. The shape is also conceptualized by imagination, the shape directly determined the effect of the move, glyphs had layers, the combination of several shapes of different sizes can cause countless different possibilities, the more layers and complexity the glyph has decides the various uses of the technique, unique and complicated effects require layer upon layer of glyphs, creating more possibilities of effects, causing the effect that the user wants after experimentation.

Imagination, emotion, experience, and inspiration are the driving forces toward conceptualizing and creating a technique, but the only way it is formed and used, is through the interaction of putting this knowledge and arcane into the Void as a conduit. One way to think of it is that the sorcerer gives the Void the instructions (conceptualization of the technique and glyph) and the materials/resources required (arcane stores), and the Void creates and gives back the end product (completed glyph and activation of technique), the deeper the connection the sorcerer has with the Void also determines the strength of the technique and how well it is activated, it's as if the sorcerer spoke the same language as the Void, being able to communicate the set of instructions better, while a sorcerer with worse connection would be like the sorcerer had attempted to communicate with the Void in a different language, the comprehension of the technique on the Void's side would be lower, causing poor output.

One disadvantage that accompanied glyphs beyond tier two was the visibility, sorcerers can predict techniques ahead of time by looking at the factors accommodating the glyph. They can also be broken. This is a major part of combat beyond tier two, and is what makes the gap between tier two and three so wide. Breaking the glyph formation of a sorcerer will cause backlash to them, damaging their body and meridian, causing large scale techniques that took long to activate to be extremely disadvantageous. The backlash caused from the destruction of a low tier technique is a lot less damaging than from a more powerful technique, which leads high tier sorcerers to usually pursue speed and efficiency over raw power.

Fraser's current location was just a short distance up north from the center of South Fable, he could attempt to trek directly toward the merchant festival, however he was blocked by the Sovereign mountain range, an expansive mountain range that stretched from the north east edge of South Fable all the way to the center, where it formed a crown-like formation, thus earning it the name "Sovereign".

Fraser would have to detour around this mountain range if he wanted to get to the supposed festival, however, the amount of time this would take was outrageous, the festival would most likely be over by the time he would have gotten there. He didn't have the resources to enslave a steed either, and Fraser definitely could not sit down and take his time deducing another technique. These deductions took days, and even if he successfully created a propulsion technique for movement, Fraser may not have enough arcane to get to the festival. South Fable was by no means small, it was an extremely large continent with vast lands. Anyways if Fraser did have enough arcane in the meridians, there would be no point in going, as all the meridians he wanted to sell would be drained. The natural production of arcane in the meridian also would take time, unless he encountered another emotional event, the rate at which arcane is produced isn't all that high, it is enough to sustain battles but not for sustaining a propulsion technique for days straight, not at tier two at least.

Fraser glanced toward a different point on the map, a symbol resembling a castle lay at the middle of the Sovereign crown, dead center of South Fable.

"Fable city? It's pretty nearby too, I guess that's where I'm headed next."

Saying so, Fraser's trip resumed, toward Fable City!
