In a matter of seconds, the earth was covered in blood, and most of the magicians who had snuck to the side of the supernatural creatures were dead. At this point, those still alive realized they had only one hope of surviving this horror: they had to use their magic. This would be a violation of the rules, leading to automatic disqualification, but they no longer cared about the test. All that mattered was life. With life, there were many more possibilities than just joining the Avalon Society.
A witch chanted in the language of her ancestors, tapping into their power, but this was when everything went horribly wrong. The earth glowed slightly, and the magic she had just drawn into her body began to rampage against her. This was highly abnormal, and before she could figure out how to survive, the magic set her ablaze, burning her to ash.
"This is the price for going against the rules," the examiner stated in a leisurely voice.
Since the option to use magic was completely taken away, there was no survival for these magicians. After wiping out the magicians, those supernatural creatures lucky enough to have beheaded them passed the second test with ease. The remaining creatures then had to fight against each other. The earth cracked, and the fight spread far and wide.
Even though the fights were legendary, the magicians were all too busy working on their spells to care about anything else. They had already come to understand that in these tests, failure meant death.
The only people who remained unmoved by the panic spreading like a disease were Cate and Mary. Mary trusted that Cate would solve the problem and allow her to pass the test, just as they had agreed. Cate, in turn, simply understood her talents and knew there was no way she would fail such a simple test. With this confidence, the two watched the fights until the victors and losers were determined among the supernatural creatures. This entire ordeal took an entire day and night.
Another day passed, and it was finally the last day of the test. Cate had spent the second day sleeping under the sun and watching the stars. Everyone looked at her as though she was crazy, but these people did not understand how she felt after being used for centuries. Locked away and only brought out when they needed someone or something killed—this had been her life. For her to now be able to enjoy the sun and watch the stars was a miracle in its own way.
On the third day, Mary began worrying. Cate had not worked on the spells at all, and they now had only hours left.
"Do not worry," was all Cate said until time ran out. The examiner appeared, and this time, she came with a group of ten people. These individuals wore long black robes, and from the auras emanating from them, they were Supreme magicians at the very least.
The understanding of magic was divided into Novice, Apprentice, Master, Supreme, Legendary, Mythical, and Divine. These realms did not measure power but understanding. Power was fixed from the moment a person was born, and very few things could be done to increase it. However, one could learn to use even the little magic they were born with to defeat those born with extraordinary magic. This was the reason there were realms of understanding and not realms of power when it came to magic.
One of the people who had come with the examiner, an old man with a long beard and eyes filled with wisdom, looked at all the magicians.
"Your time has run out," he announced.
Some people were still panicking, desperately trying to achieve something in these last moments. Even after the old man shouted at them, they did not stop.
"Hmmmph," he snorted, and that was all that was needed for those who still disobeyed him to meet their fates. A wave of power swept over the earth, and those people simply disappeared.
"He is a Warlock with Supreme understanding of magic," Cate explained. Mary looked at her but said nothing.
Another of these ten people moved forward and raised her staff. It was clear that she was a Sorcerer.
"All things are manifest from the Mind and birthed by the Heart," she cried out in an ancient language that very few people on Earth could understand in this day and age.
The world began transforming with these words that echoed endlessly. The grassland disappeared, replaced by a shiny floor, and soon, walls rose from the earth, and a roof appeared above them. They soon found themselves inside a large hall. They didn't have chairs to sit on, but they didn't care. They had just witnessed the power of a Supreme Sorcerer. This was nothing in the eyes of the Supreme Sorcerer, but to most people here, it was an amazing feat. There were very few Supreme magicians in the world, and right before them was one of them.
There was a stage at the center of the hall, and to the side, there were ten chairs where the judges sat.
"Let us begin with the Mage Born," said the old man.
The Mage Born opened his eyes and stood up. All eyes were on him. Everyone was very anxious since this test had truly been impossible. Creating spells was not so easy. The Mage Born did not seem bothered by the pressure that weighed in the hearts of the other participants.
He slowly walked to the stone stage and jumped on top. He looked at the judges and, without wasting time on sophistry, began his spell.
"Ex chao nascitur terra, cor vero eius humanum. Ferrum ab homine venit, at terra eius essentia," the Mage Born chanted in Latin, and in the next instant, everyone felt as though they had a sword pointed at their hearts.
Cate felt that same way and even the judges and the examiner were not spaed from this feeling .
"Ex chao nascitur terra, cor vero eius humanum. Ferrum ab homine venit, at terra eius essentia,"
He repeated the chant several times and soon, the invisible swords became even more real .They were still illusory but they posed a real threat .
