Chapter 36 - Assassination of Kim

Isaac was very satisfied with Ghost's loyalty.

As a true villain, this method of dealing with people was his favorite:

"I give you a chance to live… and you serve me for the rest of your life. That's fair!"

Isaac smiled and said meaningfully:

"I'll test you. The president of North Korea has been annoying me a lot in private chats lately. I want to change the president of that country."

(Note: if I don't upload chapters tomorrow, you'll know why)

"Please, give me three days!"

Ghost immediately understood what Isaac meant and bowed her head without hesitation, replying with confidence.

But Isaac said in a tone that brooked no argument:

"I'll give you only one day, but I've already arranged all the intelligence on the president and the travel routes to and from the country."

"In that case, even one day will be enough!"

Ghost nodded.

Originally, she had asked for three days because she assumed she would be working alone; she would need time to travel to North Korea, gather intel on the president, and then retreat.

But if the goal was simply to kill the president of North Korea, half a day would be enough. On Earth, no one could survive once they became the target of an assassination!

As an operative who had been carrying out dirty work for Hydra since childhood, assassinations were among the easiest tasks in Ghost's career.

After receiving her orders and leaving, Haibara Ai appeared, walking quietly.

She spoke happily, as if boasting:

"The elixir of immortality is just one step away from success. The Winter Soldier has inspired me greatly."

Isaac gently patted Haibara Ai's hair and said calmly:

"I never doubted your talent!"

"I'll never disappoint you!"

Haibara Ai responded with the same emotion as she looked up at Isaac before her.

Then she smiled, her eyes half-closed, and said:

"I need to relax!"

"At your service!"

Isaac picked her up in his arms and carried her toward his private quarters. He had prepared comfortable living accommodations at every base so that his subordinates could enjoy life as they pleased.

After a night of relaxation, a new morning arrived… and the Earth witnessed two major events!

First event: the president of North Korea was assassinated in his presidential residence in the nation's capital.

Coulson, who had received an emergency order, rushed to the crime scene as soon as he heard the news. There, he began interrogating the soldiers who had survived the assassination.

"It's horrifying! The one who killed our president was a ghost… a ghost that didn't exist!"

One of the soldiers was screaming.

"He couldn't be killed, and bullets couldn't touch him! All we could do was watch as he murdered our president, powerless to stop him!"

Another soldier added:

"No! Ghosts don't wear tight combat suits like that. He must be someone with superpowers, someone from a mysterious organization!"

"Yes! He's definitely a superhuman… and this is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fault! Because of your incompetence, our president was assassinated!"

Coulson stood silently, on the verge of exploding with anger: "…"

Was S.H.I.E.L.D. the scapegoat for everything now?! Your president gets assassinated, and you blame us? I don't recall your president ever asking for our protection in the first place!

He barely kept his composure as curses echoed in his heart, then began analyzing the situation.

"Ghost?"

Coulson knew there was only one person capable of pulling this off: the agent known as Ghost.

But the problem was that the official records confirmed that this agent had retired some time ago due to unstable health conditions.

Taking the possibility into account, Coulson reported everything that had happened, along with his suspicions, to Director Nick Fury.

When Fury heard that the president's killer might be a retired S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Ghost, a heavy weight settled in his chest.

This time… S.H.I.E.L.D. was in serious trouble, perhaps with no way out.

Nick Fury opened the private channel of the Marvel List and went straight to the secret chat room:

Nick Fury: Agent Ghost, this is Nick Fury. Report your status and current location.

Ghost was sitting on the returning plane when she received the message. Three huge question marks appeared on her face.

"What the hell? Is this man insane?!"

Ghost stared at the message in confusion. She had made it clear to Pierce long ago that she had betrayed S.H.I.E.L.D. and found herself a new employer. What did this man want from her now?

She replied with a single word:

Ghost: fuck off!

Nick Fury looked at the reply in shock.

How dare this agent speak to him like that? She had relied on S.H.I.E.L.D. just to stay alive—her body was completely unstable!

Fury typed with determination:

Nick Fury: Ghost, do you understand what you're saying? Do you want to betray S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Ghost sneered when she read the message:

"Does this fool not even realize that I betrayed him a long time ago?!"

She wrote a short reply:

Ghost: I betrayed S.H.I.E.L.D. a long time ago. Why are you asking now? How can you be the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and be this slow? Didn't Pierce tell you anything?

Beads of sweat began dripping down Nick Fury's forehead.

There was no need for further investigation… now everything was clear.

The person who had assassinated the president of North Korea was none other than Agent Ghost… who had betrayed S.H.I.E.L.D. a long time ago.
