Calla's House — The Next Morning
(The sun was bright, and a cool breeze passed through the open windows of Calla's house. Talia and Selby sat comfortably on the couch, scrolling through their phones while Calla prepared some quick snacks.)
Talia:
"Calla, when is Jane coming? It's already getting late!"
Calla (checking her phone):
"She said she'll be here in a while. Maybe traffic?"
Selby (playfully):
"What if she forgets us and leaves on her own!"
Calla:
"No way! She knows how excited we are."
Talia:
Guys… this feels like a mission, right? We should name it!
Calla:
Yeah! What about Mission Magic?
Selby:
Or Mission Orvellan Island?
Talia:
Nah bro, that sounds too direct.
Calla:
Huh… then what about Mission Thorhartwell?
Talia:
Thorhartwell?? What even is that?
Selby:
Wait, wait—I get it! Like in Just Add Magic, the spice names were linked to surnames. You made it with our surnames—Thorn, Everhart, and Caldwell… Thor-Hart-Well. Am I right?
Calla:
Yes! Exactly! You know how much I love Just Add Magic!
Talia:
That's actually cool. So, get ready for Mission Thorhartwell!
Selby & Calla:
Yeahhhh!
(Just then, the doorbell rang. Calla rushed to open the door, and there was Jane, standing with her luggage and a bright smile.)
Jane:
Hello, sleepyheads! Are you ready?
Calla:
Yes! We were just setting our mission name.
Jane:
Mission? What mission?
(The girls exchange glances and chuckle.)
Talia:
Nothing! Just our friendship thing!
Jane:
Hmm, alright. So, shall we leave?
Calla:
Yup, bags are packed, and excitement is high!
Scene Shift — The Cruise Ship
(The view was breathtaking. The massive cruise ship stood by the dock, towering with grandeur. The sound of seagulls, the smell of the sea, and the lively crowd boarding the ship added to the thrill.)
Talia (eyes wide):
"Woah… This is way bigger than I imagined."
Selby:
"I know, right? It feels like a floating city!"
Calla:
"Let's go inside! I can't wait to explore!"
(They handed their tickets and stepped onto the cruise, their hearts filled with excitement, unaware of the mysteries that awaited them ahead.)
On the Cruise — In Their Room
(The girls settle in their room, placing their bags aside.)
Calla:
"Finally! We're on the cruise. This is actually happening!"
Talia:
"Yeah… I still can't believe it! But hey, Calla, do you know which islands this cruise will stop at?"
Calla:
"Uh… I don't know yet. But yeah, we need to ask Jane or any cruise staff about the stops."
Selby:
"Exactly. It'll be easier if we know beforehand. Then we can figure out if that Mahō Orvellan Island is on the list, or close to any stop."
Talia:
"Right. Let's ask Jane after dinner."
Calla:
"Cool! But first… should we just rest or explore the cruise a bit?"
Selby:
"I'd say we explore! Who knows what fun things are on this ship?"
Talia:
"Yeahhh! Let's go!"
(The girls, Jane, and other passengers are exploring. The deck is huge, with the sea breeze hitting their faces.)
Talia:
Woah… this is so cool! I've never seen the sea from this close before!
Selby:
Look at that infinity pool! We HAVE to try that.
Calla:
And the food court… so many desserts!
Jane (laughing):
You girls enjoy, but don't get lost. This cruise is huge!
(They run around, exploring different parts — they swim in the pool, click selfies with the ocean view, try desserts like waffles, pastries, and ice cream, and laugh uncontrollably at a karaoke show.)
(Later, they try the VR gaming room, play some games together, and even visit the cruise's mini theatre for a quick show.)
Selby:
This is the best day ever!
Talia:
Seriously! Feels like a dream.
Calla:
But don't forget… we have a mission too!
Selby:
Oh yes, we need to ask the staff now.
Talia:
Okay, wait here, I'll go ask.
(Talia walks up to one of the cruise staff members standing nearby.)
Talia:
Excuse me, can you tell us which island will be our first stop?
Staff Member (smiling):
Of course! Our first stop will be Cozumel, a beautiful island in Mexico. After that, there are a few more stops along the Gulf.
Talia:
Thank you! And umm… do you know any island called Mahō Orvellan?
(The staff member looks confused for a moment.)
Staff Member:
Mahō Orvellan? I've never heard of that island. Doesn't sound familiar. Maybe it's not on our route.
Talia (nodding):
Okay, thank you!
(Talia walks back to Calla and Selby.)
Calla:
What did they say?
Talia:
They said Cozumel and Isla Mujeres are the main stops. But the staff hasn't heard of Mahō Orvellan.
Calla:
What if it's near any of these?
Talia:
Yeah, at night, let's check the map again with a flashlight — just like last time.
Selby:
Agreed. Let's enjoy now and plan at night.
(They high-five and head back to explore more of the cruise.)
(After their conversation, the girls head out to the cruise deck.)
Calla:
Let's go and see the view! I heard the sunsets here look magical.
Selby:
Yeah! I want to feel that sea breeze.
(They reach the deck — the sun is setting, casting orange and pink hues across the sky. The sea reflects the colors, and the breeze is gentle.)
Talia (smiling):
It's so beautiful… this feels unreal.
Calla:
This is what I call peace. Look at the sky, it's like a painting!
Selby:
I wish we could just pause time here.
(They spend some time taking selfies, laughing, and watching the waves.)
(Later at night, they head to the cruise dining area.)
Jane:
Okay, girls! What do you all want to eat? There's Mexican food, seafood, pasta, everything!
Talia:
Pasta for me!
Calla:
I'll take Mexican tacos!
Selby:
I want pizza!
(They enjoy their meals together, talking and laughing throughout dinner.)
Jane (stretching):
Okay, I'm getting a little sleepy. I'll head to my room, girls. You all don't stay up too late!
Calla:
Okay, good night, Jane!
Talia:
Good night!
Selby:
Sleep well!
(Jane leaves for her room while the girls head back to theirs.)
Talia:
Ughh… my legs are dead.
Selby:
Yeah, mine too.
Calla:
Okay, but now let's focus on our mission. Let's see what the map shows — which island is near Orvellan Island.
Talia:
Yeah! You brought it, right?
Calla:
Of course, Tal.
(Calla checks her bag and takes out the map. Talia switches off the lights, and Selby turns on the mobile flashlight.)
Talia:
What… how is this even possible?
Calla:
That means magic is real…
(On the map, there was a glowing cruise symbol, identical to the one they were on, floating across a drawn sea.)
Calla:
Girls, see! In the morning, we're going to stop at Cozumel. We're already near it, and look—Orvellan Island isn't that far from there.
Talia:
Yes! And we can definitely get there with a normal boat. I'm sure we'll find boats for rent on the island.
Calla:
Exactly! So when we reach Cozumel, we'll take a boat and head to Orvellan.
Selby:
Hey, hey—both of you are forgetting something! What about Jane?
Talia:
Ahh yeah, you're right. We can't just leave her alone on the cruise.
Calla:
But we also can't tell her the real reason, right? She'll either freak out or think we've lost our minds.
Selby:
Hmm… Maybe we can tell her we want to explore some nearby islands for fun. Like, just a random tourist adventure.
Talia:
That could work! And if she's interested, she might even come with us.
Calla:
Yeah, but what if she refuses? We can't waste too much time convincing her.
Selby:
Then maybe one of us can stay back to distract her, while the other two go find the island.
Talia:
Honestly, I wish all three of us could go together. But yeah, let's first ask her in the morning if she wants to come.
Calla:
Deal. But whatever happens, we're going to Orvellan Island!
Selby & Talia (together):
Yes!!
Next Morning
(Talia, Calla, and Selby are having breakfast with Jane on the cruise.)
Talia:
Hey Jane, we were thinking… since the cruise is stopping at Cozumel today, why don't we explore some nearby islands?
Calla:
Yeah! Just a small adventure, you know? It'll be fun!
Selby:
We heard there are some beautiful places around—perfect for sightseeing!
Jane:
Hmm… why not? That actually sounds amazing! I'd love to explore a bit instead of just staying on the cruise.
Talia:
Yesss! I knew you'd say yes.
Calla:
Great then, let's get ready! As soon as we reach Cozumel, we'll rent a boat and head out.
Jane:
Sounds like a plan! This is going to be exciting.
Selby:
Definitely… our mission continues.
(All of them smile at each other, excited for the adventure ahead.)
(After reaching Cozumel, the girls rent a boat. Calla sits at the front, map in hand, carefully checking if they're on the right path, while Jane and Talia handle the boat together. The ocean breeze brushes their faces as the boat cuts through the waves.)
(After some time, they are halfway to Orvellan Island. Jane walks over to Calla, sitting beside her.)
Jane:
What are you doing with that blank paper, Calla?
Just as Calla was about to answer, Talia shouts from the front.
Talia:
Guys! Look! I can see the island! Can you see it too?
(Everyone stands to look. Calla and Selby's eyes light up.)
Calla:
Oh yes! That's beautiful!
Selby:
Finally, we're almost there!
(But Jane looks confused, squinting her eyes.)
Jane:
Huh? What are you three talking about? Where's the island? Are you pranking me or what?
(The girls exchange looks, puzzled.)
Calla:
What? It's right there! You can't see it?
Jane (teasingly):
Oh stop, man! Are you three playing a prank on me?
(At that very moment, Selby's face suddenly changes. She holds her head, looking dizzy.)
Selby:
Talia… turn the boat… turn back to the cruise.
Talia:
Huh? What? Why?
Selby (weakly):
I'm… not feeling well… I can't handle more…
Selby collapses onto the boat floor as the others panic.
Calla (panicking):
Selby?! What happened?
Talia (urgently):
I'm turning back! Hold her!
(They rush the boat back to the cruise as fast as they can. Once back, they carefully put Selby onto her bed in their cabin. Jane looks worried.)
Jane:
If you need anything, call me. I'll be in my room.
(Jane leaves the room. A few seconds later, Selby opens her eyes slowly.)
Selby (whispering):
Is she gone?
Talia (nodding):
Yeah, she's gone.
Selby:
Guys… nothing actually happened to me. I was acting.
Calla (shocked):
What!? Why would you do that? We were almost there!
Talia:
Yeah Selby, seriously! What's going on?
Selby (calmly smiling):
Trust me… but first, both of you—stand up.
Both Talia and Calla look at each other, confused, but still get up.
Talia:
Now what?
Calla:
Selby, seriously, what are you up to?
(Without answering, Selby gently holds both their hands. The moment their hands connect, a soft glowing light surrounds them — the air around shimmers like glass breaking into sparkles. A warm, tingling wind wraps around them, and the sound of waves fades into an enchanting melody, like chimes dancing in the air.)
(In a flash, they land on soft, glowing grass. They open their eyes wide.)
(They're now standing on Orvellan Island. The sky here is a mix of soft purples and blues, even though it's daytime. The trees are tall and twisted, with silver and gold leaves that glow faintly. Flowers bloom in impossible shapes, some floating mid-air like they're held by invisible strings. The ground sparkles with tiny crystal-like stones. Above, there are huge floating rocks with waterfalls pouring from them, yet the water vanishes before hitting the ground, as if swallowed by magic.)
Talia:
What? How?
Selby:
Yes, I…I am a witch.
