Chapter 8 - Back to Home

Next Day

(Talia walks into Calla's room, seeing her sitting on the bed, scrolling through her phone.)

Talia:

Hey, how are you feeling now?

Calla:

Why are you asking me? Go and stay with Selby only.

Talia:

Ahh wait, are you jealous or what? (teasing her)

Calla:

No, I'm not.

Talia:

Okay okay, chill. I know you're mad at me too because I didn't come to you. I was only with Selby, but honestly, I was mad at her too for what she did. Then I listened to her, and I understood why she did that to you.

Calla:

Okay, so tell me the reason.

Talia:

I could, but I think it's better if you hear it from her directly.

Calla:

I'll think about whether I want to talk to her or not.

Talia:

Okay okay, but tell me… are you mad at me?

Calla:

I don't know… (with attitude)

Talia (teasing):

Oh yes, I forgot — you were jealous!

Calla:

Talia!! Stop it!

Talia (laughing):

Okay okay, I'll stop. But I just want us all to be together, like always. And just think about what I said — the reason Selby did that, you're proving it right now. So please…

Calla (softly):

Hmm…

(Talia hugs Calla.)

(The whole day passes but Calla still doesn't speak to Selby. Later, it's time for them to return.)

(They reach Hoxine and all head to Calla's house.)

Jane:

Here we are. So guys, I'm heading off to continue my tour. Bye!

Calla:

Bye.

Talia:

Yeah, bye! Enjoy your tour.

Selby:

Bye Jane.

(Jane leaves.)

Talia:

Okay Calla, me and Selby are leaving for our houses now. Bye!

Calla:

Oh yes Tal, bye!

(Talia and Selby leave for their homes. Calla goes inside her house but notices her letterbox — there's something inside. She opens it and finds a wand box, a letter, and a wizarding school uniform.)

She picks it up and goes inside, sitting on her bed. She opens the letter and starts reading:

"Dear Calla Everhart,We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to the Mahō Orvellan School of Magic.Your unique connection with magic has been recognized, and you are now officially invited to begin your magical journey with us.The attached wand and uniform are yours. We have also provided you this wand so you can send your reply to us. Simply hold the wand, think of your answer, and speak the spell — "Epistula Volare." Your letter will reach us instantly. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Upon receiving your reply, we will send our representative to escort you safely to the school.Congratulations on being chosen.Yours magically,— The Office of Admissions, Mahō Orvellan School of Magic"

Talia's House

(Talia opens the door of her house, steps inside, and hears voices coming from the living room. She quietly walks in and stops when she sees her mom sitting with a familiar face.)

Talia (thinking):

That voice… wait, isn't that…?

(She steps forward and realizes it's none other than Professor Scandal talking with her mother. She hides and listens to what her mom and the professor are discussing.)

Mr. Scandal:

Mrs. Caldwell, I know this is hard to believe, but trust me, it's real — your daughter, Talia Caldwell, is a witch, as her father Stephen Caldwell was a great wizard.

Mrs. Caldwell:

I don't know how to react to this… if he was, then why didn't he ever tell me?

Mr. Scandal:

I'm sorry, but even I was unaware that he was married and had a daughter. I only recently found out about you both.

(At that point, Talia interrupts, not wanting her mother to find out that they had already been to Orvellan.)

Talia:

Ahh… so I'm a witch, and my Dad was a wizard… that's really surprising.

Mr. Scandal:

Oh, good — Miss Caldwell, you're here. I'm here to inform you that you're now eligible to attend the Wizarding School, Orvellan. If you both are ready, just let me know, because the term starts tomorrow. We'll send someone to escort you safely to Orvellan.

(Talia and her Mom step aside to talk privately.)

Mrs. Caldwell:

Well, I just don't know… but if your father had hidden this, maybe he didn't want you to be part of it.

Talia:

Hey Mom, I don't think so. Maybe he was just waiting for the right time to tell us?

Mrs. Caldwell:

But now he isn't here, and I don't know what to decide.

Talia (gently):

Mom, I want to go. I want to know more about Dad — about the world he was a part of. And I'm already 16, I can handle myself.

Mrs. Caldwell (sighs):

Hmm… if you really want to go, then okay. But please take care of yourself. Promise me that?

Talia (smiling):

Promise, Mom.

(They return to Mr. Scandal.)

Talia:

Okay, Professor… Ah, I don't know your name, sir?

Mr. Scandel:

Oh yes, I didn't introduce myself.

Mr. Scandal:

I'm Arthur Scandal. I teach Defence of Magic and I'm also the one who sends letters to new students.

Talia:

Oh, okay Professor Scandal. I'm going to come!

Mr. Scandal:

Oh, excellent! Ah, wait a moment.

(Mr. Scandal waves his hand — a small boom sound echoes, and a wand along with a wizarding uniform appear.)

Mr. Scandal:

Take this, Talia. This is your wand and uniform. Be ready with it tomorrow. We'll send someone to escort you to Orvellan.

(And just like that — he vanishes.)

Meanwhile, at Calla's house, Calla tells her parents about the letter and shows it to them.

Mr. Everhart:

Ohh, that's really surprising… I mean, how does this actually exist?

Mrs. Everhart:

Yes, we never imagined something like this. We always thought — normal school, then college, and then everything else.

Calla:

Yes, Mum and Dad… I couldn't have imagined this either!

Just then, Calla's brother, Cody, walks in and asks curiously:

Cody:

What? What is it that you couldn't imagine?

Mr. Everhart:

Nothing, Cody. We're just sending your sister to a hostel — she's leaving tomorrow.

(Mr. Everhart looks at Calla and smiles.)

Cody:

Oh, what? But why?

Mrs. Everhart:

It's for her studies, Cody.

Cody:

Hmm… okay.

(He shrugs and heads upstairs to his room.)

Calla:

Okay, I'll go to my room now — I need to send the reply letter.

Mr. Everhart:

Yes, go ahead.

(Calla heads to her room, sits on her bed, her mind buzzing with excitement for the new journey ahead.)

(She thinks about her reply — the answer 'yes' — then picks up her wand and murmurs the spell:

Calla:

"Epistula Volare."

A spark shoots from her wand. A letter forms mid-air, then vanishes instantly.)

After a few minutes, another letter appears, but this time, it isn't written — instead, it speaks aloud:

Letter:

Be ready with your uniform tomorrow. We will send someone to take you.

(Calla smiled wide, her heart pounding with excitement. She looked at her wand, still amazed that magic was real and her life was about to change forever.

Talia couldn't stop smiling, her heart racing with thoughts of spells, potions, and a life she had only dreamed of.

Meanwhile, Selby… Selby sat by the window, staring at the moon, her face tense and eyes heavy with worry.)
