MAEVE'S POV
Marlo yawned. "Relax. I'm sure Devon would be a better father anywa—"
"Marlo." I growled.
She rolled her eyes. "Okay. It's just rumors from outside Ash Creek. I hear they might be working with someone else within the council to get more information about Ivan's new severance spell, and they might develop a weapon to counter it. But it's all rumors. I doubt they're true."
We were both in my chambers. Nina had taken Asha out for a stroll in the gardens, and they were bound to be back soon.
I sighed. "I really hope you're right—because that is nothing to be excited about. We're trying to take over a pack, not kill anyone."
Marlo's brows furrowed slightly, then she laughed.
"Whatever you say, boss lady." Then she paused. "You seem to care a lot about Ivan more than you let on..."
I swallowed, avoiding her gaze with indignation.
"I don't."
Marlo tilted her head slightly, then shook it a little dismissively.
