MAEVE'S POV
I pushed the door open and slipped inside. The windows were drawn, giving the room an eerie vibe.
I had been in this room several times in the past. That made it easy for me to know the right places to search.
But I remembered Devon's words about possible secret passages—that would be interesting.
Still, I started with the bookshelves. There were only two of them, and I made it through both in less than a minute.
Next, I hurried toward the desk. I had barely pulled a drawer open, which was empty too, before moving on.
My hands pressed against every surface I could find, and I had just reached for the wall lamp when I heard the door latch turn.
Immediately, I dropped down to my butt, bundling myself up underneath the table.
The door opened, and a she-wolf walked in.
I could tell by the clicking of her heels and the feminine fragrance of her perfume.
Underneath that perfume was a scent I knew too well.
Serena.
