The town greeted them with noise.
Not loud, not overwhelming, but alive in a way the forest never was, with people moving between streets, merchants calling out offers, and trainers walking with their Pokémon beside them, creating a constant rhythm that felt almost strange after days surrounded only by trees and silence.
Alex didn't slow down.
His eyes moved carefully, analyzing everything.
Entrances.
Exits.
Crowds.
Potential problems.
Violet noticed immediately.
"You're scanning it like a battlefield," she said, walking beside him with a more relaxed posture, though her eyes were just as observant.
"It is one," Alex replied simply.
She smirked.
"Relax you worry too much." said violet as she put her hand on his shoulder
They moved deeper into the town, passing by small shops selling potions, basic Poké Balls, food supplies, and even some low-tier TMs displayed behind glass counters, while a few trainers gathered near the center, discussing battles and routes as if danger was just another part of daily life.
Alex stopped briefly near a stall.
He didn't buy anything yet.
Just watched.
The prices.
Quality.
Availability.
"…We'll need to restock soon," he muttered.
Violet nodded.
"Yeah, but first, I want a place to sleep that isn't dirt."
"Yeah that's true"
It didn't take long for them to find a small hotel near the edge of the town, simple but clean enough, the kind of place that didn't ask too many questions as long as you paid.
Perfect.
After a short conversation and a few coins exchanged, they got a room.
Nothing fancy.
Two beds.
A small table.
A window overlooking part of the street.
But it was enough.
Alex dropped his bag near one of the beds and stretched slightly, careful not to reopen his wound.
"…Better than the forest."
"Low standard, but yes," Violet replied, already checking the room quickly before sitting down.
They didn't stay long.
Rest wasn't the goal.
Not right now.
After leaving their less important items behind and making sure everything valuable was secured, they stepped back outside, their Pokémon still walking beside them, drawing some attention from other trainers, especially due to the presence of Ceruledge along with the shiny Hisuian zorua and the unusual Hisuian Sneasel.
Alex ignored it.
He was focused on something else.
"we should go to the place we passed while coming here" he said.
Violet nodded.
"The clearing with the pond."
"…Yeah."
A small pause.
"Let's go back."
She smirked slightly.
"Thought you'd say that."
And so, without wasting more time, they left the town again, following the path back into the forest, the environment shifting once more from structured streets to wild terrain, the air becoming fresher, quieter, more dangerous.
It took them less time.
They already knew the way.
And soon enough
They were back.
The clearing looked the same.
Peaceful.
Still.
But this time, Alex didn't stop to observe.
"Spread out," he said calmly.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Riolu lowered its stance.
Grovyle moved toward higher ground.
Zorua faded slightly into the shadows.
Larvesta hovered above, ready.
Ceruledge stood at the center.
Gible stayed close but alert.
Violet mirrored him.
"Toxicroak, right side. Sneasel, stay fast and watch for openings. Weepinbell, support."
The wild Pokémon noticed them this time.
And unlike before
They attacked.
One stepped forward first.
Then another.
The tension snapped.
The battle began.
Alex didn't rush.
"Control the field," he said.
Riolu engaged first, fast but more controlled than before, testing rather than committing, while Grovyle struck from above, forcing the opponents to split their attention, creating openings rather than chasing them.
"Now, pressure," Alex continued.
Zorua created illusions, confusing the wild Pokémon, while Larvesta supported from a distance, its attacks more precise now, just like Alex had trained.
Ceruledge moved last.
But when it did
It hit hard.
Violet's team adapted alongside them.
Toxicroak handled close combat efficiently, while Sneasel moved unpredictably, fast and sharp, landing hits and disappearing before retaliation, slowly getting used to the rhythm of coordinated fighting.
"Good," Violet muttered. "Keep moving."
The battle didn't drag on.
It ended cleanly.
Controlled.
Efficient.
And most importantly
Without unnecessary damage.
After it ended, the clearing returned to silence, though now it felt earned rather than peaceful by chance.
Alex exhaled slowly.
"…Better."
He looked at his team.
They had improved.
Not massively.
But noticeably.
"Again," he said.
Violet smirked.
"Thought you'd never ask."
And so they continued.
Battle after battle.
Not reckless.
But focused.
Each fight sharpening their movements, strengthening their coordination, reinforcing the bond between trainer and Pokémon in a way that couldn't be rushed or faked.
As the sun began to lower, casting golden light across the clearing, both Alex and Violet finally called for a stop.
Their Pokémon were tired.
But stronger.
Alex looked around one last time.
"…This place is good."
Violet nodded.
"Yeah. We'll use it again."
They began heading back toward the town, slower now, calmer, the tension replaced by quiet satisfaction.
Tomorrow, they would do it again.
