"Let's toast to the newly wed!"
The host shouted, followed by the cheers from the audience. She felt herself stiffen. The anticipation from the crowd was starting to overwhelm her, making her brain freeze for a fraction of second. She's slowly running out of breath and beads of sweat were starting to fall down her spine despite the air-conditioned reception area they're in.
"Oh, God. Please, not this time," she silently muttered under her breath.
This was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Yet, a doubt threatened to creep as scenarios of this turning into a nightmare played in her mind. She inhaled a calming breath while slowly raising her glass to the air. She shouldn't lose it today. Not in this freaking day.
She plastered her sweet smile. A smile that covered the turmoil inside her. A smile that fooled everyone. Including him.
She looked at the man sitting beside him. He was also raising his glass, but he's not smiling. His eyebrows were drawn together, and the look of annoyance was written all over his face. Despite all that, he was still smoking hot in her precious eyes. Handsome as ever.
The thought of them finally getting together filled her heart with excitement, tamping down her initial emotion. This was truly a dream come true for her. A wishful thinking that she started manifesting since the day she laid eyes on him.
"Why do you have that look?" he asked in a controlled voice.
"What look?" she asked in confusion.
"A stupid look."
And just like that, her fairytale reverie crumpled under her feet. His slow and forceful enunciation of each word dragged her back to reality. She then looked away, embarrassed. Who was she kidding anyway? She might be married to the man of her dreams, but it's always the reality that pierces the heart the most. Yes, she loves him. Always will be. A one-sided love. Always have been.
