Chapter 9 - A Prank

Lucian sat in the chair, with a bright PC screen reflecting in his eyes.

Lucian(muttering): According to the book, 'SSH' can help me get full access to my PC terminal. I have already downloaded 'Ssh Connect', but I need to install something first on my PC.

Lucian looked at the terminal as he started typing...

-------

> Sudo apt install openssh server

>Sudo ssh service start

-------

Lucian: This is like a switch that will allow the app to get access. I already have my IP, ID, and password.

Lucian opens the app on the phone, and a simple interface appears.

Lucian tapped Connect. The phone's screen flickered briefly, then lines of text scrolled down — his PC's terminal, right there in his palm.

Lucian (smiling wider): Oh… this is now endless.

Lucian tried every shell command he knew; he could access all of them with just his phone, though it was a bit hard to control. All in all, it worked. He immediately tried to leave his house to go to a nearby park, but before he could even reach his door, the app crashed.

Opening the app and filling the form again, something different happened.

'Connection: Error'

Lucian: What the—No... The shit is this...

Lucian frowned—

No matter how much he tried the connection seemed lost.

After a bit of research, Truth hit him.

Lucian stared at his ceiling fan, while an article on his PC was open.

Lucian: This is so bulls... Why does it only work in a home network?

Lucian was disappointed. Though there was a method to bypass this but...

Lucian: Port forwarding... I can't do that, according to the articles, it's like leaving your house door open 24/7.

Lucian leaned forward again, started typing, trying to find another method, and it wasn't long before he did.

Lucian: SSH keys… Huh. So instead of typing my password every time, I can have a special file that is my password… and the server only lets me in if I have it.

He skimmed another forum post.

Lucian: If I pair this with port forwarding, the key will make it safer…

Scrolling further, a highlighted reply caught his eye: "If you use keys and disable password logins, no one can brute force you."

Lucian raised an eyebrow.

Lucian: So basically, it's like giving my PC a lock no one can pick… unless they already broke into me once.

Lucian(muttering): Maybe I can make this work.

1 hour later,

Lucian's fingers darted across the keyboard; he seemed very focused.

Lucian(smiles): The extra steps are done, and now with this, everything is ready....

Lucian launched the app as he logged in, slowly walking across his room, his eyes piercing a hole through his phone as he slowly left his room, then his home.

Lucian: The connection is valid.

On that day, Lucian roamed throughout the entire district, including public parks, libraries, and coffee shops—he explored everywhere.

Same day, Midnight

Lucian was smiling, his eyes bright like a star, and he just scrolled and scrolled, looking at the logs created by NetSpector.

Although he didn't know what to do with it, he felt a slight urge to brag, so he shared it with someone he had recently met.

@Abyss: What do you think?

Onetwo: It's great to be honest, if you did build that... It's quite amazing for someone like you.

@Abyss: I have tons of IPs. I haven't figured out, what I want to do with it.

Onetwo: Well, do what you want to. I am getting off now.

@Abyss: Ok...

-Onetwo has left the chat.

The next day,(Saturday) 5am

Lucian woke up like an early bird, not because he wanted to, but just because he couldn't sleep.

(Sighs)

Lucian(thinking): God— I wanna sleep, but I haven't thought of anything I want to do. Arghh!—

Lucian was just searching but also noting anything he could do with all the information he had.

-----

Add port scanning in NetSpector

Find and log in to the Wifi Admin page if recorded.

-----

Lucian: Only these two look fun... I will have to wait for Monday before school starts— Tsk.

Some time later, WallBucks Coffee shop

Lucian stood before the counter as a barista handed him a coffee.

Lucian: Thank you... Ahm... Could you tell me the wifi password?

The barista slid the paper slip across the counter — the Wi-Fi password scribbled in black ink. Lucian took it without a word, keyed it into his phone, and watched the signal icon bloom to full strength.

He drifted toward the back of the shop, choosing the farthest corner, away from the chatter. From here, he could see almost everyone — and more importantly, every device on the network.

Lucian is still connected to his PC through SSH, and started the NetSpector as the name just kept popping up.

------------

192.168.0.1 [Unknown] MAC: 00:1D:7E:AA:22:9F (NexLinq) — Gateway

192.168.0.4 [PC] MAC: 00:1F:33:CC:89:12

192.168.0.5 [Phone] MAC: 8C:85:90:2A:7C:1B

192.168.0.6 [Tab] MAC: 1C:62:B8:77:9F:D1

------------

Lucian(thought): The first is the IP of the WiFi. So Nexlinq is the router brand, then.

As he immediately opened the browser and searched: Nexlinq Wifi default admin pass.

Lucian: Root!

Lucian then used the IP to log in to the admin page and filled out the form

----------

Username: Admin

Password: Root

----------

The website stuttered. Lucian curled his lips anxiously, looking around himself.

It loads— what Lucian saw was nothing more than a goldmine, even though half of it he didn't even understand.

What he did understand was something very silly.

Lucian: Remove!

--------

192.168.1.10 | [Luci$-Phone] | MAC: 9A:54:8B:23:7D:F0 | Active | Remove( )

JanePc | 192.168.0.3 | 1C:62:B8:77:9F:D1 Wireless | Active | Remove( )

Homar |192. 168.0.4 | 2C:56:Y6:88:1F:C3 | wired | Active | Remove( )

--------

Lucian clicked on the remove. A tick mark was formed, knowing full well what he did. Lucian looked up, trying to figure out who Jane was. He saw a woman jolting up, walking aggressively towards the counter.

Leaning up slightly Lucian saw the crashed website on her laptop.

(Smiles)

Lucian: This is funny as shit...!

Lucian was amused as he started doing it more not just at the coffee shop but also in he library.

2 hours later,

Lucian sat on his chair, feeling happy but also dissatisfied, not knowing that he barely touched the waters.

Suddenly— from the forum

Onetwo wants to have a private chat

Yes or No

Joining the session, Lucian felt a bit different as if he knew something was coming.

_________

Onetwo: I have some work... From your wifi NetSpector, I will pay you.

_________

Lucian's eyes widened... Not knowing this was going to start something very big.
