POV: Dr. Chen
My phone wouldn't stop ringing as I drove toward Pine Ridge. Every government agency in Colorado wanted answers about the "unexplained energy readings" coming from the small town.
"Dr. Chen, this is General Morrison from NORAD," the latest caller said. "We need you at the site immediately. Our satellites picked up something that shouldn't exist."
"I'm five minutes away," I replied, my hands shaking on the steering wheel.
"Good. And Doctor? Bring your best cover story. The President is asking questions."
The line went dead. I pressed harder on the gas pedal, knowing I was already too late to stop what was coming.
When I reached the ranch, military vehicles surrounded the entire area. Soldiers in hazmat suits were taking readings with equipment I'd never seen before. In the middle of it all stood Jake Morrison with Hope and Hunter, completely unbothered by the chaos around them.
"Jake!" I called out as I parked.
