The tent was warm, quiet, and gently lit by the flickering glow of enchanted firestones embedded in the seams.
Veyra lay face down on the bedroll, her fragile frame tucked beneath a light fur blanket, her back exposed and pale as moonlight. Lucien's fingers pressed gently into her shoulders, coaxing out the tension buried deep in the muscle. His shadow tendrils swirled and undulated across her spine, massaging in rhythmic pulses of pressure and warmth.
"You were saying," Lucien murmured, his voice low, "you had to leave your forest?"
Veyra moaned softly, her head resting on her folded arms. "Mmhm… My village was nestled in the Whispering Canopy, just above the sapphire rivers of Elun'Thalor. My people used magic to grow our homes from the trees, shaping branches like clay."
Lucien raised a brow. "Sounds dreamy."
"It was… until they realized I was good at killing things." Her voice turned wistful. "At first, I was just tinkering. Little traps. Toys. But then… siege weapons. Catapults, flame-throwing treants, golems of bark and stone. I was good. Too good."
"They got scared?"
"They said I'd been corrupted. That no wood-elf should enjoy destruction." She paused. "So they banished me. Sent me into the world. Alone."
Lucien's hands paused. Then, gently, he leaned forward, brushing a lock of fire-colored hair from her cheek. "You weren't corrupted. You just… saw the world for what it was. Cruel, unfair. You adapted."
She turned her head, her green eyes luminous in the low light. "And then I found you."
Lucien gave her a smile, warm and genuine. "I'm glad you did."
Veyra shifted under his touch, rolling slowly onto her back. The blanket slipped away, revealing the full curve of her body.
Slim, softly toned, glowing faintly in the ambient light. Her cheeks flushed, and her lips parted slightly.
Her voice came in a whisper.
"I want to be yours," she said. "Truly. All of me. But… I've never… been with anyone before." She paused, drawing in a breath. "Can you… be gentle?"
Lucien's smirk faded into something softer. He reached up, brushed his thumb across her cheek. "I promise," he said quietly. "I'll treat you like the treasure you are."
He pulled off his shirt in a single motion, the firelight catching on the chiseled lines of his torso. Veyra reached out with trembling fingers, helping him unbuckle the leather of his pants. Her touch was delicate, hesitant, but fully eager.
Just as he leaned in to kiss her neck, Veyra cleared her throat.
"Um…" she muttered, eyes turning to Serenith.
The voice from across the tent came flatly. "What?"
Lucien twisted around, flicking his head sharply toward the door. "Out."
Serenith scoffed from her chair. "You've had no problem ploughing half the Ash Wastes with me in the room all month. What's so different—?"
Then she caught the look on Veyra's face.
Blushing, vulnerable, clearly trying to muster courage.
Serenith's scowl melted into something almost apologetic. "Ah… got it."
She rose to her feet, brushing off her robe, and walked toward the tent flap. Before stepping out, she gave Lucien a glare. "Be gentle with her, or I swear I'll zap your dick off."
Lucien grinned. "You always know just how to lift the mood."
As the flap closed behind her, the cool air of the mine returned faintly. Serenith sighed, sat beside the fire just outside the tent, and waited.
Then, the faintest, breathiest moan slipped through the fabric.
She chuckled to herself. "Gods help me. He's actually being romantic."
The moans grew infrequency and intensity, and Serenith's concerns grew alongside them.
Then came a shriek.
The angel's eyes widened. She scrambled to her feet, threw open the flap… and stopped.
Lucien was flat on his back, arms behind his head, his signature smug smirk plastered across his face while Veyra was atop him, hair wild and cascading, cheeks burning red as she rode him like a woman possessed.
"… Of course," Serenith muttered.
Lucien glanced at her and threw her a wink.
Veyra squealed again, her voice bouncing between moan and cry. Lucien gently guided her hips, meeting her rhythm with a deeply penetrating patience.
She was fully in control, he was simply her willing foundation for pleasure.
Serenith slowly backed away, shaking her head and giggling. "This man is a damned anomaly."
She dropped back into her seat, pulled a flask from her side pouch, and took a swig. "Might as well enjoy the soundtrack," she muttered.
Hours later, Lucien stepped out of the tent, shirtless, hair tousled, grinning from ear to ear.
Serenith gave him a slow, sarcastic clap.
He bowed low. "It wasn't my best work, but the client seems satisfied."
"She was chanting your name," Serenith said. "While speaking in tongues."
Lucien shrugged, stretching lazily. "She's got potential."
Serenith's voice turned quieter, thoughtful. "You know, I've doubted you every step of the way. All this construction, conquest, debauchery. Everything always seems like it's for you."
Lucien's smile faltered slightly.
"But what you did in there… that was almost actually kinda sweet. Debauched and sinful, sure… but sweet."
Lucien met her gaze, suddenly serious. "I do want to help people, Serenith. I want to build something better. But all I've ever known, my whole life, is business… and sex. So that's what I use. Because I'm damn good at it."
He stepped forward and dropped to one knee.
Serenith blinked.
Then he reached for her hand.
As soon as his fingers touched hers, his skin began to sear and smoke, holy light flaring up where they made contact. But he didn't flinch.
"I'll make you proud," he said, voice cracking slightly. "No matter what it takes."
Serenith gasped.
His fingers were burning away, but he kept smiling through the pain. His eyes shimmered. Not with lust, but conviction.
"You idiot," she whispered.
But she didn't move. She couldn't. Her lips parted slightly, her eyes fluttered, her heart beat unnaturally and… just as her head began to lean forward and her eyes fell shut—
"MY LORD!"
Veyra burst from the tent, frantically looking around. When she saw him, she gasped and fell to her knees. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fall asleep after you gave me the best night of my life! I-I think I blacked out—"
Lucien chuckled. "It's fine. I want you well-rested before we take on the dragon. Back to bed with you, beautiful. I'll join in a moment."
She grinned, bowed and squealed before hurrying back inside.
Lucien turned back to Serenith, still holding her hand, though now only bones remained of his. He released her slowly, wincing as his ash magic stitched flesh back over the charred remnants.
Serenith sighed and reached up to her halo.
"Wait, what are you—?"
With a pained grimace, she gripped the glowing ring of light and pulled.
A sharp flash of radiance burst from her as the halo separated from her head. Lucien covered his eyes, blinking rapidly.
When he looked again, she stood before him.
No wings, no glow, her divine energy dimmed. She held the halo in her hands like a crown of thorns.
"What are you doing?" he whispered.
She stepped close. "This is what I look like when I'm not bound to celestial duty. Not a watcher. Not an angel. Just a woman. "
Before he could speak again, she leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips.
Lucien froze.
It wasn't fiery. It wasn't hungry.
It was warm. Sincere. Real.
When she pulled away, he stood stunned, eyes wide, heart pounding in his chest like a war drum.
She smiled, slipped the halo back over her head and with a burst of light, her wings returned, her glow restored.
Lucien stared, dumbfounded. "Did… did you just—?"
Serenith pressed a finger to her lips, smirking.
"Shh," she said. "Savour it."
