Chapter 161 - Dragon Lair Arc: Seven

"Sous...let's go," the Hunter pointed at the thirty-five year old. She got up from her bench and walked out the exit of the open air prison. She spent the last couple of days saying bye to many of the dragons. She didn't have any friends beyond them. Her roommate, the vampire, had been killed some years ago by another inmate and Daniel was also dead as well from an altercation from another inmate.

Sous was led to the opening of the prison where she saw Faye standing outside waiting for her. The woman was older, just like Sous, and looked about the same but was a bit more muscular. She still had her glasses but her hair was no longer in cornrows but a more natural state in which her hair was out, wild with curls.

"Wow," the priestess said, hugging her friend. It had been years since they saw each other, and here they were standing outside of prison with dragons flying all about them in the sky. "Are you ready to go?"

There was no need for Sous to look back at the prison, there was nothing there for her, so she nodded her head. With one clap, Faye took a needle from her hand and placed it on the ground. They were gone.

They appeared quickly in the Bayous, standing in the mud. Sous lifted up her leg while Faye just laughed.

"Oop, I should have warned ya about that. Come on, let's get going. Its going to get dark and wendigos come out around then."

"Wendigos?"

"Yeah, they're beast that have these high piercing screams. Hey, do you have a job?" Sous shook her head. "Well, while you're staying with me and Makala, you can apply to the transport team. Its an organization that transports wendigos to murky areas like this one since sometimes they go to the human settlements." Faye shrugged her shoulders. "They like the taste of humans, I guess. Pays a lot of money because of how dangerous they are."

"The humans?"

"No, the wendigos."

They came to a residential area in which they had to walk up steps to get to the bridges that the houses were built on. Faye lived in a two story house that had a gated front and back yard. She opened the door for Sous and was led inside. Sous could automatically smell the scent of apple pie being cooked in the kitchen.

Makala was humming when she heard her wife and Sous entered. She looked up and had the biggest smile on her face. She ran to Sous and hugged her, Sous lifted the woman up and twirled her about.

Sitting at the kitchen table was a young teenager who looked to be about sixteen. She was light brown in skin color with red eyes and fangs. Her hair was also curly but a less thicker texture than Faye.

"That's our youngest. Her name is Cherie," Faye introduced them. Sous bowed her head to the girl mixed with vampire and priestess. She also noticed the cup of blood she was drinking.

"We're almost empty nesters," Makala said. "We just have her and her older brother, DeFaye, here. You're just in time for dinner too, take a seat."

The city hall was much bigger now in Red Woods. Everything was much bigger in Red Woods due to them being just a strong and powerful city. The Apex pack still held a firm fist on the deer meat industry and with them owning most of the land in Canas, they were bringing back the money to their own pockets.

Zhiliary sat in the conference room and looked at the power point her elite, Riley, was presenting.

"So as you can see the region of Tink is still being heavily guarded by the pixies," Zhiliary rolled her eyes at the presentation. Not because it was bad, no, because she was sick of dealing with the pixies.

For the past twenty years, that whole area had been giving them trouble. They lost numerous wolves that way. It was as if they were immune to what the wolves were doing. Zhiliary couldn't help but think that it was the work of a witch.

Witches came with a cost. One cost being first born. When Kara's first born was delivered, she was immediately taken away to the witch. An act that cost Doureena her entire relationship with her daughter, but also that allowed Apex to concur more land.

Zhiliary stood up from the chair and walked to the presentation board. Riley took a seat next to Curtis and Lucio. Pixies had something that was quite lucrative. It was a little kick that allowed fairies with wing disabilities to fly...pixie dust.

Pixie dust also had healing properties as well, an ingredient often used for elixirs. So with her arms behind her back, she looked at the board before her and just knew she had to find a way to break through to that region.

Faye escorted Sous to her bedroom which was on the first floor, guest room. Sous stood inside the room, having not been in one for years, not even having a bed but a cot. A cot wasn't so bad though since that's what she had when she were a child.

She walked to the desk and sat at it. "Who do you plan to write to first?" Faye asked, she leaned on the door frame with her arms crossed, and one leg over the other.

"My mom and grandfather," Sous said, followed by "Tany, my daughter, and then I'mma try and write to Zan." Sous probably didn't even understand the point in writing to him. She had been writing for the past twenty years and nothing.

It was around later in the evening when she was done that her and Faye went to a little bar. They walked the planks to and from locations and finally came to a bar that was called The Ugly Gator.

It was busy inside, filled with people of Sous and Faye's age. She walked in and began to turn heads instantly. It wasn't often an Alpha came around these here parts especially one that was so different from a typical wolf.

Faye looked at Sous' neck, seeing the seals. After she got her refreshment along with Sous, the two sat down on a couple of stools.

"So how do you feel?" Faye asked, taking a sip of her drink, not losing eye contact.

"Good..." Sous said. "It feels good to be out but...so much had changed, I feel it."

"You mean with Canas?"

"Yeah..."

"Listen, the Leadarch is granting you a six month stay here in Nadia. After six months then they want you out of the country unless you can prove you're an asset to them."

Sous drunk all of her blood, something she didn't like as a child but grown to enjoy while in prison thanks to her late roommate. He would warm the blood up, boiling it, which gave it a taste that was much sweeter than the iron taste in non boiled blood.

"I'm not sure if I'll be much worth," Sous explained. "I haven't trained in years, haven't held a wand in the same amount, haven't cast any spells, haven't summon. I just worked out. I seriously doubt I'll be able to fight like I did when I was younger." Sous spent the rest of the late night talking to Faye and looking at the women to see if there was any, she wanted to take home that night. She still wasn't sure, but she was glad to finally be out of prison.
