The wolves stopped in their place, Deacon coming to the forest in front of Sous. The ground continued to crack behind them until finally it caught up with the wolves.
Deacon turned behind him to see the slant of the land moving forward toward the high rising tide. The wolves tried to run toward Sous, some of them made it but many fell below downward to the rocks.
Their bones cracked and slammed against the hide tide rocks, their backs broke in two, their necks snapped.
The ground continued to buckle and even the wolves that managed to escape had no where to go but keep running forward. They ran passed Deacon toward Sous.
The ground gave way below her, breaking apart. She was left on an island while the wolves that tried to escape, fell below. Deacon watched his comrades fall to their deaths, Paya to the rear also watched.
Their camp was just over to the east, if only they could get there, call for back up.
Sous jumped to the land in which Deacon stood where it stood about seventy-five soldiers behind him. No one could see it but Sous had a blue flame figure that followed her steps. Her father's spirit walked in her footsteps finishing what he had started decades ago.
Sous walked toward Deacon and held her hand out, her wand appearing before her. She placed the wand's tip upon his forehead and began to drain his magae.
The black gas swirled around her wand coming forward to her, and entered into her own body.
Deacon was let go from his wolf form and fell onto the snow in his nude human form. Sous slammed the wand into the snow and a black gust of wind went through all the wolves, stopping at Shadow.
The wolves instantly turned back into their human form in the nude and fell forward into the snow. Her wand dispersed into blue particles as she stepped toward Deacon.
Deacon slowly got to his knees in the snow, shivering. She got down on one knee to be at his level. She then whispered to him, "Your wolf has been taken from you and starting today, you are nothing but a mere human."
His eyes got wide, not fully understanding what this meant, that she took his 'wolf' away. He turned to look at his comrades and saw they too were in their human form.
"Go back to your camp, go back to Red Woods and tell Doureena to not set foot back on this land."
"You took our magae..." Deacon asked.
Sous smirked at him. "Yes, let's hope Doureena doesn't kill you for being a human."
Deacon looked up above and saw the hundreds of fairies that were watching them below. Without even yelling, he ran in the snow. His pack, the ones who were alive, followed after him.
Sous wasn't sure if they would survive all the way back to Red Woods as just humans but it wasn't her responsibility. The fairies begged to differ.
Artreus ordered his group to follow after the wolves and make sure they got to the train station, possibly having to fly them to the transportation station themselves.
Tany ran toward Shadow who grabbed her by the arm, pulling her back. "Watch your step," he said.
Tany looked down to see the red sea that had turned red from the blood of the wolves that had fallen into the cracks, landing on the shore rocks, was just a dozen of footsteps below her. If Shadow hadn't caught her arm then-
She shook her head and looked up to see Sous walking toward them.
Monica finally caught up to them, breathing heavily. She looked at Shadow and at Tany, Artreus descended from the sky. He landed next to Sous once she reached her group. He placed his hand on her shoulder. "You did good back there," he said. "You kill so easily. Who taught you that?"
"Apex," Sous answered truthfully.
Her blue flames extinguished and she walked with the group back toward the city hall. She looked back at the snow, at the coast. Looking down at her hands, she single-handedly took away the magae from an entire wolf pack of about seventy- five. She smirked at herself. She had power and strength and just felt amazing.
As wolves, they were able to go from Canas to Faelock within a matter of a day but as wolves who lost the ability to transform, making them no more unique than a human, they had to take transportation.
It was an embarrassment for them to walk and leave with seventy five while one thousand and eight hundred stayed behind with Riley.
The fairies watched over the camp site, waiting to hear back from Doureena. Ready to attack if the wolves desired so but Elevyn would not be going back to Canas.
Doureena stood up from her chair, hearing the news about one hundred and twenty five wolves had perished and the one thousand and eight hundred still remained at the camp.
She walked to the sparring arena where the seventy-five were, digusted they would dare show their faces. They were wrapped with blankets givien to them by the fairies.
"What is this?" Doureena asked. "Where is Elevyn? Uh, Deacon, Paya?"
The wolves kept their heads low. Doureena walked to Deacon and took him by the neck, raising him off the ground, the blanket falling from his shoulders, leaving him nude before his Alpha.
"Where is Elevyn?" Doureena dropped him, standing back to hear his answer.
"Sous is in Faelock."
Doureena nodded her head and turned about where she stood. "What did she do to you?"
Deacon inhaled as much air as he could. "She took away our ability to transform into our wolves."
Doureena was astonished at this admission. "What do you mean?"
"Exactly how it sounds, Alpha-"
SLAP!
Deacon flew across the arena, sliding on the ground, and slamming against the wall. Never had an Alpha been so weak in her presence. Never!
Riley was left with about one thousand and eight hundred soldiers to watch over. That night, she stayed by the wifi station with her laptop, making sure to look for any news from Doureena.
It looked like to her the old elites were slowly dying off. First it was Diamond and then Deacon and Paya losing their magae ability to transform into wolves. What good were they?
Crunch!
Riley quickly stood up, alert when she saw a figure come from the shadows. Wild long blonde hair, blue eyes, lean muscular frame, black seals on either side of her neck, antennas...Sous, the Alpha.
Riley had seen her once years ago during the event where she challenged the Alpha. She was so young then so tiny and frail yet strong.
She gulped, stood up standing her ground as the Alpha that stood six feet tall appoarched her and sat down on a log in front of the wifi station. The red light that came from the station bounced off of her, making her gleam a different color that night.
"Sit." Sous said and Riley did as she was told, this Alpha was way ahead of her even if younger. "To drain someone of their magae is to alter their DNA. See, alchemy teaches that. Chemicals...what does what to what..." She paused, leaning on her thighs with her forearms, staring into the abyss. "All species have DNA...genes that make who they are. Werewolves are the closest to humans. You take away the gene that allows for transformation to the canine species and puff...you have a human." She sniffed, the snow beginning to the fall, melting when it touched her. "Some species are more difficult. For vampires, you'd have to find the gene that makes them dependent on blood. The spell is not easy." Sous finished.
Riley remained quiet, listening to what felt like an old wise woman speaking of life.
"When I take away someone's magae, I gained what they have lost." Sous stood up and pulled up her shirt, and as she did, Riley's eyes became fixated on the large wolf symbol that was on Sous' stomach. "They're power...becomes my power..."
