Sitting was still painful for her. Eric asked if she wanted to lie down in the car or not, but she refused; she wanted to watch the streets for a while. She had no idea if she would ever walk in this part of New York again or not!
The mansion was outside the central area of New York, located in one of the best and quietest neighborhoods. There wasn't a single private property within several kilometers around.
Before opening the door, the guard checked Eric's fingerprint and then respectfully nodded to Diana. He didn't know under what title she was introduced, or if they even knew her name! The car stopped near the mansion's entrance stairs. The door was opened for her, and Eric held an umbrella over her head.
-its ok, Eric.
She glanced at the many stairs in front of her and wondered how she could climb them in her condition.
/This way, ma'am.
He led her under the stairs, and that's when she saw the elevator, letting out a relieved breath.
The elevator stopped on the first floor, and she saw Jacob waiting. Well, well, he hadn't hidden after all.
Eric gave a short goodbye and left. Now Jacob got into the elevator.
_"Welcome back,"
he said.
-"Thank you,"
she replied quietly.
He placed his fingerprint on the scanner. Apparently, the top floor was reserved only for themselves.
She asked aloud,
-"Don't the servants and guards come here?"
In less than a few seconds, the elevator reached the third floor. Jacob waited for her to exit first, then headed toward the door.
_"No, just Matthew, me, and now you.
He doesn't like strangers entering where he lives.
Only trusted people come for cleaning."
-"I'm a stranger too…"
He stared into her eyes and answered,
_"You're not, Diana. You're no longer a stranger.
It's something that happened, and I guess it can't be helped.
So try to deal with it.
I really don't want you to get hurt."
Diana smirked,
-"Well, well!
You said more than two words and even managed to look at me. You forgive me then."
_"Are you okay? I'm not the one who should forgive.
I... I just couldn't face you after what I did."
