Diana's voice rose.
-I was the one who attacked you first…
You only tried to defend yourself. Stop pitying me!
Jacob raised his voice in return.
_Pity? What the hell are you talking about? Have you lost your mind?
I shot you, Diana. If it had hit just a little higher, you would've died.
Diana was about to respond when Jacob raised his hand.
_Alright… fine. We're both to blame.
You're so pale right now you might pass out.
Come eat something first, before you collapse in my arms.
She grumbled with a frown,
-This is my natural skin tone... I'm not pale.
Jacob gave her a quick look, turned his eyes away, then studied her face again.
He asked skeptically,
_Really? You sure? Because you look very...
She glared at him and said,
-Yes, I'm sure. I've always looked like this. And just hearing the word "rice pudding" makes me sick. So you'd better get it out of your head…
I can read it in your eyes.
He chuckled and placed a drink in front of her.
_Not rice pudding, but… yogurt, maybe.
When he saw her eyes go wide, he burst out laughing.
- How dare you call me yogurt?!
Well, I suppose it would've been better if I looked like you, huh?
She scanned his face and body, trying to find some flaw…
But honestly, Jacob was really attractive. Tall, well-built, with relatively light hair.
Jacob, unbothered, started making coffee. While doing so, he said with a sly smile:
_Yeah, buddy… go ahead. Search all you want to find something.
Then he lowered his voice and whispered:
_ But you won't find anything!
Diana thought for a moment.
-Well actually, I do know something… and now that I think about it, it's a pretty big one
_What?
Jacob asked with suspicion.
- Matthew.
Yeah… now that I think about it, he's a major flaw. And being close to him? That's a massive, massive red flag.
So since you're friends with Matthew...congrats, buddy.
She said it mischievously, and then both she and Jacob burst out laughing.
+ "What's going on in here?"
