I texted my little one the moment I reached Haven Harbor, but her reply was unusually brief. She was clearly upset with me—normally her messages overflowed with affection. I needed to call her, but Aurora had already messaged me that the station was absolute chaos today. We'd agreed I'd arrive by noon, and though he'd said there was no rush, he'd promised to alert me if things got hectic—which they certainly had.
I decided to postpone calling Maya until after I assessed the situation at the station. When I arrived, it was pure mayhem! Between ongoing investigations, statement processing, and fresh arrests, the hours disappeared.
By five, I finally had a moment to breathe and tried calling my little one, but the call went directly to voicemail. This wasn't like her. After everything she'd been through, her phone was practically an extension of her hand, and her sudden unavailability set off alarm bells.
