Maya's POV
I returned to my workstation contemplating strategies to persuade Damon that everything was fine between us and we could resume our normal relationship. I craved his touch desperately. Just as I settled into my chair, my phone vibrated. My detective's name illuminated the screen.
"Hey, handsome! I was just thinking about you," I answered cheerfully.
"My sweet girl, that's nice to hear. Been missing me?" His voice sounded lighter than it had in days.
"You can't possibly imagine how much," I exhaled dramatically, triggering his laughter.
"Sweet girl, you're truly something else!" Damon chuckled.
"It's simply love overflowing," I responded, making him burst into more laughter.
"You know I love you immensely too. Listen, I need you home earlier today. Can you skip your evening classes?" His question instantly brightened my mood. Was my punishment finally over?
"For you? Anything's possible, handsome!" I flirted shamelessly.
