Maya's POV
Sunday afternoon had slipped away, and I still hadn't returned to the diary. Yesterday, Damon had persuaded me to set aside my search for answers while my family visited, knowing they'd be heading back home by evening. He'd gathered all the evidence—photos, letters, the diary—and tucked them away, promising we'd have a peaceful Sunday.
But peace wasn't in the cards for us today.
Chloe had called yesterday after I'd assured her I was handling the shock reasonably well. She'd insisted on visiting today, partly to see me and partly to check on Ophelia. Owen and Lana joined us for lunch, with Lana quickly winning over my father with her vibrant personality and quick wit. By mid-afternoon, Chloe and Noah arrived, and just as we settled in, the doorbell chimed again. Damon excused himself to answer it.
