He rubbed his jaw thoughtfully. "But now… with him falling sick like this, everything's at risk of freezing. Nobody's talking. It's strange. Too sudden. Too quiet."
He looked at her again, his voice trailing into a low breath.
"So that's just it."
From the way Mark spoke his tone, the slight heaviness in his voice, and the way his eyes flickered with unspoken thoughts Cecilia could tell that this business partner meant a lot to him. She didn't need to be told how big the deal was. She could see it.
It was written all over his face.
And even though Cecilia didn't want to interrupt or meddle, something in her heart wouldn't let her stay quiet. She took a small breath and spoke gently, watching him closely.
"Mark… what if we just go there?" she said. "Just check on him. Even if it's nothing, at least you'll know you tried. And if it is serious… then you would've paid your respect. It would go a long way. Especially since he's your business partner."
